I think this is the default behavior by design. When I tried to copy files on the root of the transmission share or folder, I have R/W access. but read only to the subfolders (downloads, incomplete and config).

I downloaded Magento 2.0 into Downloads folder and extracted all the files into temp_extract. Now I want to copy all files inside temp_extract into var/www/magento. I cannot figure out how to do it. I tried several copy command-lines, but none worked. Also, I tried several file managers, including Gentoo, Xfe, PCManFM, and Nemo. None of them helped. I have given all permissions, i.e., d rwx rwx r-x, to magento directory. With most file managers when I copy and paste the files, they say that I do not have permissions. With Gentoo, I ended up transferring temp_extract into magento directory, but I couldn't figure out the command-line to move from temp_extract into magento. I am using Ubuntu 14.04. Can anyone help? Thanks.

You have to be superuser in order to copy something to /var/www and since you are copying a folder you need to include the -R parameter to the cp command for it to copy recursively. It would be something like this:

The file mangers gives you a permission denied error as you are copying files in to a folder owned by root, /var,you should not change the permissions of system folder like /var, you have two options to move these files, first

I am having the same issue. It worked up until about a month ago. Updated both my iphone and Mac Mini. I still cannot figure out why my files won't go to the downloads folder. Any chance someone else can help solve this mystery.

All the files and folders inside my MSFS folder have a golden lock and I cant move them. As an example, I can put files inside the community folder but I cant copy them later to the desktop or any other place, I can just delete them. If I try to move...

Do you have a spot you want to move these folders to?
Make a new folder called packages in that spot, then copy the new address and paste it in place of the existing path.
See if you can the save the UserCfg.opt after that.

I have made SOME progress on this.. WHat I have found so far, is that uTorrent does not change the file names and DOES indeed store them where they are sposed to be, However for some unknown reason the File permissions are set to a way that you cannot access or see the files.. I found this by navigating to the said folder in a Root Explorer on my Rooted phone.. I am so far, Unable to change the permissions to have them show up on the pc... I am attempting a few theories to solve the issue.. If I figure something out, I will let you know

After doing all these if you are having the same problem then follow these steps go to PlayStore on your phone download MyPhone Explorer client and install it. And on your computer download MyPhone Explorer from this site and install it on your computer. After installing go to your phone and go to settings and enable USB Debugging mode on Developer Options on your phone and run MyPhoneExplorer Client on your phone. Now connect your phone to computer using USB or Bluetooth while connecting for the first time unlock your phone screen and follow the instructions on your computer screen select phone with Google Android OS, once your phone is connected all your contacts and messages are copied to your computer you can backup your applications files etc to your computer. Now select Files on MyPhoneExplorer and select memory card now you can see all your uTorrent downloaded files select download or drag and drop the selected file which you want to copy to the computer to desired location. But the coping process takes much more time as it can copy the files at 2-3 Mbps speed. At the same time open your phone memory card and go to download folder of Utorrent, In some phones while you are copying a file using MyPhoneExplorer the files would been seen after few minutes and then you can directly copy it from here since this process of copying is speed from copying it through MyPhoneExplorer.

I load up Android File Transfer, the Quest file folder shows up, but when I drag and drop a movie into the movie folder after a few seconds of uploading it stops and am error message pops up stating "could not copy file" and then a second message appears stating "Cannot access device storage. Make sure your device is unlocked and file transfer or MTP mode is selected."

I want to copy all of the files and folders from one host to another. The files on the old host sit at /var/www/html and I only have FTP access to that server, and I can't TAR all the files.Regular connection to the old host through FTP brings me to the /home/admin folder.

Hi, I cannot move files from downloads to any other location. I am trying to move or copy audio files from downloads to"notifications' and "ringtones". I tried both copy and paste and move but when I go to the folder I want to move or copy to, the move here or copy here functions are greyed out. I tried moving them on my PC by connecting the phone by cable, something I could do in previous versions, but this still would not work. Photos are attached.

You can copy your tax return data files to the new computer. They have the file name extension .tax20yy, where yy is the year. For example, the file name extension is .tax2015 for your 2015 tax return, .tax2016 for your 2016 return, etc. The default location for the .tax20yy data files is My Documents/TurboTax, but you could have saved them in a different folder.

I assumed that this would reduce the Dropbox folder to a mere normal Windows folder, i.e. an unshared local folder that has my own local files in it but no access to files shared by others. However, I can no longer open even my own files that were created on this computer and never edited or used by anyone else. Even if I copy them to my desktop, which has nothing to do with Dropbox (obviously), if I try to open them I get an error about Dropbox.

If you receive the error could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder. Change the folder properties and try again, or try saving in a different location., your problem might be caused by corrupt plist files.

4- Then, copy of the previous Pendrive (N 1), the folder, [ SanDiskSecureAccess Vault ] which must have exactly this name , and you replace, _the folder of the same name, that you have in the new Pendrive _ (N 2).

As for the lost files, something may have gone wrong during the encryption process. Perhaps, cutting these files from the vault folder and temporally pasting them elsewhere, then reverse the action by cutting and pasting back into the vault may work. Do this procedure without logging in. Normally, I usually leave a copy of an unencrypted file before encryption. If OK, I then overwrite (not delete as nothing is truly deleted) the original with a blank file which can be used for other data later on. Hope all of this helps.

I had the same problem. It was due to too long file names and use of dropbox. The file would open in my Downloads folder but when I copied to a Dropbox folder it would not open, nor could I change the name in the Dropbox folder. However, I could shorten the name in the Downloads folder and copy this to the Dropbox folder and then it would open in the Dropbox folder

I upgraded from Big Sur to macOS Monterey today. Since the upgrade, I can no longer copy any files into any folders in my Google Drive Desktop folder. I get this error - "The operation can't be completed because one or more required items can't be found. (Error code -43)". I have uninstalled and reinstalled Google Drive for Mac but that has made no difference. I can create new folders within the Google Drive folder but I can't copy or create any files inside these folders (or any existing folder). Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks in advance!

Is the file you want to copy to Google Drive still in the downloading status? If it is not fully downloaded, then the macOS is not able to find it, let alone move it from the Downloads folder to your Google Drive for Mac. So make sure the file in want is fully downloaded. If not, wait until it's done.

I want to download a folder from iCloud Drive using the web interface (iCloud.com). The only problem is, since it is not zipped, I cannot download the folder. Is there a way to download the folder without having to sync the entire content of my iCloud Drive with my computer?

Go to and request to Apple a copy of your iCloud files.
Unfortunately, you cannot select which folder you want to include; you will receive a link to download the whole drive.
They say it could take a few days to receive the link. However, in my experience, it only takes a day.

So, the original question request a solution "without having to sync the entire content of my iCloud Drive with my computer".
I had the same problem. I was not using iCloud Drive in my Mac, but it was active (probably by default) on my iPhone.
Then, I could use the File app (the built-in App) to copy the whole folder to the internal storage of my iPhone or to other cloud (Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, etc.).
