hey programming crew, Karen Cooling had to pull out of the cross movement panel (has pneumonia!).  Any suggestions for a labour speaker for cross movement panel who is available on Sat morning at 10:45am? Thanks!

Hi Rachel:

I’m very sorry to have to do this, but I’ve been diagnosed with pneumonia.  I am quite sure that I won’t be well enough to participate next weekend, even though it is still a week away.

The panel is excellent and I’m sure that they will be able to handle all of the issues when trying to bring together folks from different specific movements.

Best wishes for a terrific event, I’m very disappointed that I won’t be able to be there.

Cheers,

Karen

I would definitely be interested in chatting ahead of time regarding topics and issues to cover. The sooner the better for me as I'm helping organize PowerShift I will be pretty swamped on the weekend itself.

Thanks Rachel!

I look forward to our movement panel discussion with all of you excellent folks!

One question for Ben - as the panel moderator, would you want us to check in by phone to share ideas on the framework of this discussion? I have some time next week for a call, if others are available.

If folks are too busy to find a time for a , one suggestion is we could get together for breakfast/coffee before the panel?

Insol,

Ananda

Hi Harsha, Ananda, Karen, Kelsey, Reuben and Ben!

Thanks for agreeing to be presenters at PowerShift BC! We are really excited for this weekend on Oct. 4-7 in Victoria, unceded Coast Salish Territories.

Below is some logistical information, and a few things I will need to get from you. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Panel Time

Your Cross-Movement Panel is scheduled for Sat. Oct 5th at 10:45am-12:00pm in the Maclaurin A 144.

You will have 1 hour and 15 minutes for this panel.  Each speaker will have 10 min, with time at the end for a Q and A. The moderator is Ben West. Please communicate and coordinate between yourselves (everyone is ccd in this email) what you will be covering, and who will be speaking in which order.  The idea behind this panel

is folks involved in multiple movements speaking to climate justice and the importance of cross-movement organizing.

Also to consider: what key points/messages do we want participants to walk away with?

You can see a preliminary agenda of the weekend here, and find a campus map of UVIC attached in this e-mail.   Please arrive at your panel location 15 minutes early.  There will be volunteers available who can assist you with and any tech needs you may have.

Presentation Logistics

Projectors and screens will be available in all conference rooms.  If you have visuals in your presentation, you will need to bring a laptop to connect to the projector.  If you are unable to bring a laptop, but have visuals in your presentation, please let me know in the

panelist registration form.

If you are bringing a Mac, you will need to bring a converter that converts to DVI.  To connect to wifi, there will be a guest password that you will have access to.  We are happy to try and accommodate any specific computer, audio-visual or other equipment you may need for your presentation.

We will also have flip chart paper and felt pens available, but presenters are responsible for all other material needs.  If you have any specific needs or requests, please indicate them in the form and we will do our best to accommodate them.

Getting There

The day programming will be taking place at UVIC, with the Friday evening welcome and keynote at Crystal Gardens, and Saturday night keynote at Macpherson Playhouse.

We have set up a rideshare site for folks travelling from outside Victoria.  If you have a car and are able to drive other participants, or if you are looking for a ride, please sign up!
