Today, cars are equipped with the latest technologies like power steering & brakes, GPS navigation, connectivity with mobile apps, the electronic system of warning lights & symbols, and more. Generally, drivers rely entirely on the electronic sensors connected to our dashboard. In this article, our sole focus would be on the system of warning lights & symbols.
While talking about the Peugeot dashboard warning lights symbols, this one might be the most prevalent. This warning light will occur if the parking brakes are not applied properly. Your plan of action should be to stop your car. You either have to manually set a gear or select mode P. After this, give a call to the workshop.
The battery charge warning icon would appear initially for a short time when you turn on your car. After that, it would stay on your Peugeot dashboard. The issue can be resolved if you clean the battery terminals. If the symbol persists, visit the service centre.
If the combination of brake and ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) warning lights up in your Peugeot dashboard, then halt your journey as soon as you can. It indicates that the electronic brake force distribution (EBFD) system is faulty.
Only diesel users have to deal with these Peugeot lights on dashboard. The particle filter warning light indicates two things. Either the filter is nearing the saturation point, or your tank is low on additives. To resolve the former issue, drive at the speed of 37mph until the lights turn off. To deal with low additives, get it topped and call your service station.
Your Peugeot dashboard has two warning lights for airbags. An airbag fault light appears when the seat belt pretensioners or airbag(s) are not working correctly. Get your car serviced as soon as possible.
The second warning light, i.e. Passenger Seat Airbag icon, is related to the front passenger seat. It indicates whether their airbag is active or not. This becomes important if you have installed a rear-facing child seat on the front passenger seat.
This warning symbol can appear in two forms, flashing and fixed. If the sign is fixed, the vehicle is at a halt and is put on stop mode. When the sign flashes on your Peugeot dashboard, the stop mode is unavailable. It will also mean that the start mode has been automatically turned on.
The lamp warning symbol will appear on your Peugeot dashboard when one of these lights is switched on, fog lamp, side lamp, headlights. The blue headlight indicates that the main beam headlights are on.
This article tried to explain the Peugeot dashboard warning lights symbols in detail. Hopefully, now you know the meaning and function of each icon that will flash in your Peugeot dashboard.
Driving could even fix a minor problem in your diesel particulate filter (DPF). If the service light illuminates next to the DPF icon, driving for 10 minutes or so at speeds greater than 40mph could help to clear or regenerate the filter.
If you ignore the warning light while using the accelerator to brake on an incline, you could cause the clutch to overheat. This leaves your transmission system vulnerable to damage and could lead to a hefty repair bill.
If the ABS warning light is also illuminated this signals that the braking system has malfunctioned and your brakes may not work properly. In this case the Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) warning light may also be illuminated.
This light could indicate a number of faults, from minor issues like a broken electrical sensor to a much larger mechanical issue, like a fault with your emission control system or catalytic converter.
If the airbag system is not working properly, it may not go off in a crash - or in some cases it could even deploy unexpectedly and cause a crash. Either way, the airbag system is an incredibly important safety feature of your car so if this light comes on please get it checked out immediately.
For electric powered systems, this problem could be as simple to fix as rebooting a computer. Find a safe place to stop and try turning the car off and back on again after 30 seconds. If the light stays on you should take your car to get checked as soon as possible.
If you have a diesel, one of these lights will come on if there is a problem with the exhaust particulate filter, which removes harmful soot from the exhaust gases to reduce emissions. It could indicate that the filter has become blocked with soot.
As well as releasing a plume of toxic black smoke every time you press the accelerator, driving with a blocked filter could cause more serious damage to your car. You should go to a garage to get it checked as soon as you can, as these filters can be expensive to replace.
This light will come on when the engine is overheating. This could mean that coolant levels are running low, perhaps due to a leak in the system, or it could be a sign of a larger problem, like a head gasket failure.
Yes, but you should drive with extra care and aim to top up with air at the next opportunity. Low tyre pressure can cause unsafe driving conditions so reduce your speed, and try to avoid braking suddenly or making any violent steering manoeuvres.
Most petrol stations and garages will have an air compressor you can use to check your tyre pressure. Top up the air in the tyres according to the vehicle manufacturer specification in your owner's manual.
This warning light should come on before the brake pads become dangerously thin, so you have time to get them changed. You should replace as soon as you can though, as if they wear out completely it could be extremely dangerous.
The oil warning light illuminates on your 3008 when the oil temperature rises too high or the oil level or pressure drops too low. If the oil fails to lubricate the engine properly, it could result in costly or irreversible engine damage so we advise topping your engine oil up or bringing it to your local service centre and getting it checked out by the professionals .
Red warning lights indicate issues that should be addressed ASAP, although they are not necessarily a serious fault. For example, they include seat belts and door open symbols. Amber warning lights indicate a problem that needs to be corrected but not urgently, while green lights are usually simple indicators.

The oil pressure or oil level lights indicate that there is a fault in the engine's lubrication system. You might see these lights if the oil temperature is too high, or the oil level or pressure is too low. In some models, such as the PEUGEOT 108, you might also see the STOP light. If the oil pressure/level light is red, you should pull over as soon as it is safe to do so and turn off your engine.
A brake warning light might indicate an issue with the braking system or parking brake. This could be due to several issues, including the brake fluid level being too low, a fault in the braking system, or the parking brake being applied or not properly released.
In some models, such as the PEUGEOT 208, there will be a separate parking brake warning light. If it is fixed, it indicates that the parking brake is applied or not properly released. In electric parking brakes, the light may also flash, which shows that there is a fault in the parking brake application/release. After stopping your car, you will need to either engage a gear (with a manual gearbox) or select mode P (automatic gearbox) before calling a garage/workshop
This light can be fixed or flashing in some models, or it might have display blocks lit in red on the matrix instrument panel. If it is flashing (such as in the PEUGEOT 108), it indicates that the engine coolant temperature is rising. If it is fixed, the temperature of the cooling system is too high.
The stop light might simply say STOP, or it might be a warning triangle with an exclamation mark. It can be accompanied by another light that further indicates what the problem is. Stop as soon as it is safe to do so and book your vehicle in for a service.
This light turns on for a short time when you first turn on your car. However, if it stays illuminated, this means that there is a fault in the battery charging circuit. The issue may be solved by cleaning the battery terminals, but if this doesn't work, you should book your car in for a checkup.
The engine self-diagnostics system light indicates that a major fault in the engine has been detected when it is illuminated in red. It can also be amber, flash, and may or may not have an exclamation mark inside it. When this light is visible, you need to get your car looked at right away.
No need to apologize! While Peugeots and Renaults are sold worldwide, both French marques have been absent from the US marketplace for decades, hence a lack of practical knowledge on this side of the pond.
Service Warning Light
The Peugeot 308 service warning light comes on temporarily due to a minor fault. The service light stays on constantly due to a serious fault where there is no dedicated fault light. A warning message may also be displayed on the dashboard. Minor faults include:
We get posts here from around the world, no worries. Modern cars tend to be designed pretty similar, irrespective of their manufacturer or country of origin, mainly b/c environmental laws are so similar throughout the world now. Many of the constraints in car design these days are due to environmental rules.
My problem is that there is a warning light showing on the dash. The symbol looks like an injector spraying fuel. It is on all the time but the engine seems to be running fine. I have driven approx. 400 miles with the light on without a problem. I took it to a motorhome dealer and they checked it and said that it was a faulty fan relay ???. They didn't have the part required and seem to be struggling to locate this relay for me. They charged me 75 for checking it and two weeks later I still haven't heard from them about supplying the relay.
