Ihave an MR60 with two MS60 sattelites (purchased from Costco). After initial setup I was able to update the firmware through the Nighthawk app to v1.0.6.102 (the same version firmware is running on both the router and the sattelites). Everything has been running great.

On 27-Jun I received the email alerting me to an urgent firmware update. When I visit the product page at and click "Firmware and Software Downloads", I see that there's a "MR60 (Mesh Router) Firmware Version 1.0.6.110" and a "MR60 (Mesh Router) Firmware Version 1.0.6.112 - Hot Fix" available.

...the app says "Checking for New Firmware" at the top and "Wait about 5 minutes..." at the bottom. After a pause (less than a minute) it says "Your Firmware is up to date" and gives me the big "OK" button.

...I get the same screen as above (the app says "Checking for New Firmware" at the top and "Wait about 5 minutes..." at the bottom). After a pause (less than a minute) it says "Your Firmware is up to date" and gives me the big "OK" button.

I had to use a laptop connected to the MR60's network. I manually downloaded all four firmware updates to the laptop. Was able to get to routerlogin.net from the laptop (would not work from a browser on my phone). Yes, the phone was connected to the MR60's network.

"Manual Update" in the right-hand pane. Click the Status or IP Address of one of the MS60 satellites shown in the table, new tab opens for administration of that device. Browse to the appropriate firmware file downloaded earlier. Upload. Close tab when done.

I just got this router a couple of days ago, and I just went through the same process (before I saw your post). However, the latest version on the Netgear site is now 1.1.6.122. I updated my router and satellites to that version, and now when I check for online updates through the router's web interface, it says "service unreachable". I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that it's running a newer version than it thinks is available through the online update system? So I guess now I'm stuck manually checking the website for updates, and manually uploading the firmware to the router. Hmmmm... Seems less than ideal....

Thank you for reaching out. We are sorry for not being able to get back to you immediately. If you have the latest firmware, it should say on the Firmware Update or Router update page( under Advanced), " No new firmware is available." Did you try using a different web browser or different device?

I observe the same issue as @redcdale. After manual update to V1.1.6.122_2.0.58 I'm getting "Service unreachable" when I'm checking if there is new firmware available. I tried Google Chrome and Firefox. Below is the screenshot showing the issue.

Thank you for reaching out. We are sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you. May we know when did you notice the issue? Does it happen after the recent firmware update? Did you do any troubleshooting on your end?

When FW 1.0.6.116 was installed, checking for new version was returning that there is no new FW version available. On the other hand there was 1.1.6.122 available, so I downloaded it and updated my devices manually. Immediately after the update to 1.1.6.122 the issue apeared.

Thank you for the information. For now, use the previous firmware version 1.0.6.116. We would like to endorse you to NETGEAR Level 2 support team for callback to gather details so we can forward this to the Engineering team. Please DM the following information:

OP checking in here. Since updating to v1.0.6.112 about a month ago I haven't been seeing any other updates. I recently replaced my phone (unrelated to all this, but from one Android device to a newer one), installed the Nighthawk app, and now I occasionally see a red "Update" box on the app's home screen. The app also ALWAYS says that it's connected to the router via Anywhere Access even though the phone is clearly connected to the router's SSID.

I have the red "update" box now and I just tapped it. The app sat for about a minute then said that "There was a problem checking the firmware." I retried and it tells me that there is an update to v1.0.6.116 available, not the latest ...122 I see when I visit

Netgear has set up a community forum specifically for the NightHawk MESH products. Most of the people who watch that forum are more likely to have experience with NH MESH products and know how to work it better than those of us who follow this forum. Might be more likely to find someone who has a solution if the question is posted there:

My old router died and I just bought a new WiFi 6 Mesh system (Netgear Nighthawk MR60 Mesh). Every device (phones, laptops, desktops, Xbox, iPads, etc.) connected to the new WiFi network. However, when I tried to connect my OfficeJet Pro 8600, I continually get an error "Invalid wireless password (WPA) entered" after entering the WiFi Password. I have tried it over and over confirming that I have the password typed correctly. This new Mesh network does not show a different network name between 2.4ghz and 5ghz. It uses the same network name. It also does not allow me to "turn off" the 5ghz signal. I understand from reading that the printer needs to connect to the 2.4ghz signal. However, this new technology does not separate the two signals.

-Turned off my router wireless security password. Printer did connect. However, after I turned the router wireless security password back on, the printer lost connection and would not connect with the password.

I've spent over 5 hours trying "fixes" and nothing has worked. I would welcome any help as I'm ready to take a baseball bat to my printer at this point. This is obviously an issue with the printer as other devices that "need" a 2.4ghz signal have connected with no issues.

I'm using WPA2 (AES). I also tried to switch to WPA (TKIP)/WPA-2 (AES) but no luck either. The only way the printer will connect is if I turn my security to "none" removing a password, which of course is not a good solution.

Actually I did move one of the stations into the room with the printer and connected it with the RJ-45 connection. While this did provide a solution for the printer to actually work and connect to the network, I find it disappointing that a wireless printer has to be hardwired connected to the network since it won't wirelessly connect. HP has some work to do to get their printers to work with the latest technology.

The router firmware was already updated. I did notice that the firmware for the printer needed an update. It took a little time to find the correct firmware since there were 4 different versions (actually tried a few until one worked). After the printer firmware update, it has now connected to the wireless network. Thanks for the suggestions and help!

I'm afraid I know no more about it than is given in that thread. I have a different router. However this isn't the first thread to hint that HomePods have trouble with mesh routers. Check to see if there is a firmware upgrade in case that option comes along with it. If you've set up the guest network it is important that none of your own Apple devices are given the guest network credentials, HomePods don't work on guest networks which block peer to peer traffic.

1. Download the ExpressVPN firmware

2. Connect your Netgear router to the internet

3. Install the ExpressVPN firmware

4. Connect to the router running ExpressVPN

5. Complete the setup on the router

Note: If you cannot sign in with admin and password, you can try signing in with the default credentials printed on the bottom of your Netgear router. However, if you changed them in the past but cannot remember them, you will have to hard-reset your router so you can use the default credentials to sign in.

Once your device is connected to the network, you will see the setup screen for the router running ExpressVPN. If it does not appear, go to expressvpnrouter.com. Select Get Started and follow the instructions.

Yes but I run open source firmware on every router I can afford, regardless of brand. All router manufacturers really need to do is make their routers easy to reflash & not too difficult to write firmware for.

If you happen to use a WiFi modem, the router firmware is part of the modem code, all of which requires verification through DOCSIS engineering. I worked with them on several occasions, especially with the Older netgear 6300 series wifi modem.

I did beta testing of the C3700-N600(I think) and it was horrible. Packet loss and latency across the board with Wi-Fi. I tried to tell them not to use it, but they didn't listen. I tried to convince them to get a license with D-Link. That was back when D-Link was decent with routers like the DGL-4500. Even had a fancy dinner with some of the D-Link engineers.

As the world of wireless routers continues to expand and grow, as well as the amount of connected devices in the home, open source firmware represents an excellent way to "expand" the capabilities of your powerful, high end NETGEAR router.

A variety of NETGEAR routers, including the R6300, R6300v2, R7000, r8000, R9000, and more, support the ability for users to customize them with third party firmware. These firmwares, such as DD-WRT, Tomato, and OpenWRT, act as a replacement for the stock firmware provided by NETGEAR.

Flashing your NETGEAR open source router with third party firmware can unlock a wealth of options from fine-tuning and tweaking options, to built-in VPN support, detailed access control abilities and more. Everyone can benefit, from networking experts to newbies.
