PRS-300 russification

Hi, sorry, I'm totally new and just trying to russify my new PRS-300.
Actually, I am able to read some epub books on in cyrillic, while the
others are all ???.
But in both cases the names of books are just some squar symbols.
All russification instructions I've found so far are for PRS-505 and
require flash card, which PRS-300 does not have.
I've dowloaded the file for PRS-300 from this site - it did added the
catalan, etc. - but even in "choose the installation language" I have
the square symbols, no russian.
Could you help me with clear instructions for PSR-300 russification.

PRS+ is multi language, it doesn't focus on any particular language.

1) Russian letters are not visible in installer, unless you've
previously installed PRS+ and are updating to newer version. You can
change your language at any time via settings menu.
2) After installing PRS+ For EPUBs to show Cyrillic, go to PRS+
settings and choose "fonts as lrf" for epub css. (epub viewer uses
it's own fonts, default fonts affect only LRF)

 Sorry, I have this device only for  2 days, so please understand my stupidity.

So,

1)  I got from "downloads" the

PRSP_300_2.0.14beta.zip

PRS+ 2.0.14beta for 300

through computer placed and unzipped it in my device directory - just created a totally new folder and unzipped it all there.

2) disconnected the USB, pushed the bookmarks button -

the device screen shows installation with many languages - no Russian, just a row of squares.

I actually got scared and pushed the return button at this point - device works like before, i,e, russian book titles are shown - just rows of squares, and some books are ???, some could be read.

3) - what I was supposed to do at step 3, etc. to have it correctly?

The only small problem, rather an annoying feature  - every time I download books (use only Sony standard program so far) and disconnect USB or power thereader down, it produces the screen that asks me to go thrugh the installation process again - the same screen that appeared the first time I unzipped the file and disconnected device, except that Russian is shown now.

When I tried to repeat the proces, after all warnings, etc., it tells me that it is up-to date, no update is needed. Now all I do is push "exit" every time.

Is that supposed to be like this?

Reset the reader, connect it to PC while it is booting, wait it to boot and remove the PRSInstaller.

Hi Michael,

 I think I desperately need your help.

My PRS-300, after recharging, suddenly freezes on "updating firmware now".

after several hour of that, I've decided to reset - 

it now says "opening the book" and than switches to "firmware update did not compete successfully, please try again" 

and I'm going cycles...

Device on computer shows only one file "Protected!", any attempt to to unzip the file- it tells me there is not enough space on the device.

(device was probably 1/3 full)

what to do?

Hi

First charge it to 100%! =)

Use "updater" from here https://code.google.com/p/prs-plus/wiki/Unbricking

It will install firmware from 505 (yeah, not from 300, there was no official one for it).

This is only a temporary step (505 firmware looks fine but drains battery real fast on 300's) and after it you promptly install either standard firmware (listed as "original firmware" on the "ubricking" page) or PRS+.

Hi, 

well, I've followed these steps -

i.e run the hack on my computer, it actually made the PRS300 visible vs. "protected" as before

and after that I've copied and unzipped an uninstaller there -

now it reloads, "opening the book", shuts down reloads, "opening the book" - cycle does not go beyond that...

Does internal memory contain anything? Try connecting it to USB while it boots.

sorry for being a hard case - I'm still having the problem, looks like tried every recommendation found for the this o r similar case. Almost got it, but it does not give me cyrrilic.

Looks like I'm got stuck with the version for 505 (it shows music when loaded and does drains battery rapidly), despite unzipping PRS installer.

What I see now, when connect PRS300 to computer are two disks - READER that has all my files

and  INSTALLER FOR READER - this one is write protected, does not allow to delete or format it, etc.

Hi Eugene,

so reader boots fine if USB is connected during boot, right?

The additional read only drive is fine.

MAKE SURE READER IS WELL OVER 50% BATTERY BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Please do the following (read and follow it carefully, every step matters):

1) Reset it and immediatelly connect it to PC via USB

2) Run checkdisk on it (from command line it is chkdsk /f <drive letter>, i.e. if internal memory is e: drive, command would be chkdsk /f e:

3) Remove PRS+ installer folder (or better erase everything from internal drive)

4) Disconnect from USB, and shut it down or reset

5) Repeat step 2 (yeah, 2 times are needed, reader likes to keep invalid file handles which damage file system again)

This will ensure that file system on internal memory is fixed. (this is the most common software problem that is causing reader to hang when being disconnected from USB).

So you should have empty internal memory (reader will create /database/... folder on it when you disconnect, it's fine)

Now, installing PRS+ on it:

1) Unzip http://code.google.com/p/prs-plus/downloads/detail?name=PRSP_300_2.0.18.zip&can=2&q=#makechanges to internal memory of the reader

It is VERY IMPORTANT that you don't lose folder structure! (some zip programs do it for some idiotic reason). 

So ensure that after you've unzipped it, that your folder structure looks like this:

2) If file structure is fine, disconnect the reader, wait for about 10-20 seconds

3) If installer doesn't start press page scrolling button (it will wake it up and let installer start)

At this point, installer should start and you can follow instructions on the screen.

Hi Mikheil:

really heaving problem -

went through all the steps, everything appeared to be fine, till the actual installation of PRS_300_2.0.18

It stated installation, 

 -asked me about choice of languages for installation (I selected English)

 -gave me a note that software is not sanctioned by Sony (I selected 8- continue)

-gave me another warning that if I install PRS+ my firmware will be overwritten with supported version (I choose 8-install PRS+,

   should I choose 0 -expert mode at this stage?)

-gave me another warning that it is about to install (I chose 8-continue)

 - Working,....

FAILED. !!!!ERROR!!! Invalid Type

what am I doing wrong here? Please help.
