Kansas Educator - Type 2
(Middle School) Practice Course
The Kansas Educator - Type 2 (Middle School) Practice Course is a self-paced
online course that provides a comprehensive overview of the knowledge and
skills necessary to be successful in middle school mathematics. The course is
designed for pre-service teachers who are seeking initial certification in
grades 6-8, as well as continuing professional development credits. The course
includes algebraic concepts, problem solving, function applications, geometry,
measurement and data analysis, statistics and probability, financial literacy,
consumer mathematics and career studies. Students are expected to complete
approximately 100 hours of study prior to taking the exam.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
Demonstrate an understanding of the characteristics of middle school learners
and how they differ from those of younger students;
Identify specific mathematical concepts required by the new Kansas State Board
of Education standards;
Demonstrate an understanding of the mathematical reasoning processes needed by
middle school teachers;
