Occupational Therapist Assistant Practice Course
Occupational therapists are licensed health care professionals who assess, plan
and implement treatment programs for individuals with disabilities. They use
their knowledge of human development, behavior, cognition and learning to help
people perform daily living activities. The skills and expertise of
occupational therapists are used in a variety of settings including hospitals,
schools, nursing homes, rehabilitation clinics and private offices.
Occupational therapist assistants provide support services to occupational
therapists under their supervision. The following is a list of the occupations
that are included in this major:
Occupational Therapist Assistant: Assists occupational therapists by performing
administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and maintaining records;
conducting functional evaluations; providing support during treatment sessions
with patients; preparing the patient for treatment; assisting with therapy
sessions; instructing patient in the use of adaptive equipment; observing
clients during therapy sessions to monitor effectiveness of treatment
strategies; collecting data related to individualized treatment plans;
preparing reports on client status for record keeping purposes; completing
other duties as assigned by supervisor.
