About the Service:

Iowa (IA) Resident License (M.D. or D.O.) Practice Course

Iowa (IA) Resident License (M.D. or D.O.) Practice Course

This course is designed for Iowa residents who have taken their general education requirements, passed the United States Medical Licensing Examination, and are preparing to take the first level of board certification exams. This is an intensive course covering all aspects of clinical medicine as well as basic surgery and anesthesia as required by the American Osteopathic Association for certification in osteopathic medicine and surgery (AOA). The course will provide comprehensive training in primary care medicine, including dermatology, ophthalmology, allergies, pediatrics and women’s health issues.

The curriculum consists of lectures by faculty members, small group sessions with preceptors and other students, interactive case studies using standardized patients and simulation training using mannequins or simulators. In addition to classroom learning, students will spend time observing physicians at local hospitals and clinics where they will be able to practice skills learned in class such as taking histories or performing physical exams on actual patients under supervision from faculty members or preceptors who are licensed physicians in Iowa
