The Maryland Surplus Lines Broker/None Practice Course is a thirty-hour program that includes the following topics:
Surplus Lines Insurance. In accordance with the Maryland Insurance Administration's (MIA) regulations, this course provides an overview of surplus lines insurance in Maryland, including basic risk management concepts, coverage limitations and exclusions, and the applicable statutory provisions.
State of Maryland Insurance Law and Regulations. This course provides an overview of the laws governing insurance in Maryland and also addresses specific topics related to insurance regulation such as licensing requirements for both agents and brokers as well as managing risks associated with excess lines transactions.
Applying for Licensure as a Surplus Lines Broker/None Practice Representative. This course describes the application process for licensure in Maryland along with the qualifications necessary for each license level.
