Geologist-In-Training Practice Course
The Minnesota Geologist-In-Training (GIT) Practice Course is an intensive
two-week course that provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to
pass the GIT examination.
The GIT Examination is a comprehensive test of your understanding of geology,
including both natural and human-related geologic processes. The exam consists
of two parts: Part 1 covers physical geology, while Part 2 covers economic
geology. The exam is administered by the Association of American State
Geologists (AASG).
This course is intended for anyone preparing to take the Minnesota GIT
examination. It is also beneficial for advanced students who want to review
their knowledge before taking a professional practice examination such as the
Professional Practice Examination (PPE). Topics covered include:
Physical Geology
Earth’s Interior: Structure and Dynamics; Tectonics; Volcanism; Earthquakes;
Seismicity; Plate Boundaries; Continental Drift; Isostasy; Rocks, Minerals, and
Sediments; Igneous Rocks; Metamorphic Rocks; Sedimentary Rocks
