About the Service:" Florida (FL) Medical Physicist Practice Course

 

This course is designed to provide an in-depth understanding of the medical physics profession and the role of the medical physicist within a medical facility. This course will also familiarize you with the regulations and standards governing medical physics practice throughout the United States as well as specific regulations for Florida. The regulatory requirements for Florida are based on guidelines from the American Board of Radiology, American Association of Physicists in Medicine, and the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements. These guidelines include requirements for education, training, licensure, certification and recertification.

 

The course begins with an introduction to diagnostic imaging technology, including principles related to x-ray production and detection, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound and nuclear medicine investigations. You will also learn about radiotherapy treatment delivery systems such as linear accelerators and brachytherapy sources. In addition to these topics you will learn about quality control issues associated with radiation safety including patient protection during diagnostic imaging examinations.

 

The second section of this course provides an overview of radiation protection measures used in health care facilities including controlled areas for radioactive materials; safe distances between personnel and patients being treated; radiation shielding; monitoring devices used by medical physicists during treatment"
