About the Service:" Optician Practice Course
The Florida State Board of Opticians is responsible for regulating the practice of optometry in the state. The Board interprets and enforces the Optometric Practice Act, which governs all aspects of optometric care. The Board also licenses and regulates the education programs that lead to licensure as a Florida optometrist.
The Board is comprised of five members who are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate. The terms of each member are five years in duration and are staggered so that no more than two members' terms expire in any one year. The Governor appoints one member who must be an optometrist; one member who must be a public citizen with knowledge or experience related to health care; one member who must be a public citizen with knowledge or experience regarding consumer protection; one member who must be a public citizen with knowledge or experience regarding business practices; and one member who must represent consumers at large.
