The Funk South Drain, originally built in 1974, has been a persistent concern for the township. The drain, located in a wet sand area, requires constant and expensive repairs. Landowners have persistently requested a more durable solution, resulting in the proposal of a new drainage system.
Since I am an unabashed Greg Tate groupie, it's no surprise that I often find musical gems while trolling his facebook page. Recently he hipped me to DJ Mujava, a South African DJ, who's "Township Funk" first hit the internets back in '08, the video for which is featured above. Since then he's done a series of "Township Funk Remixes" as well, fusing electronic music, house, dance, Kwaito, and other South African music into truly funky jams that inspire dance floor booty-shaking. Although this isn't brand new (we'll take a late pass on this one), Mujava is definitely one to keep checking for. For the latest, check out this DJ Mujava remix by Schlachthofbronx for "Mugwanti/Sgwejegweje," below.
