I have FISHER PROVOX DCS SYSTEM.The system consists of two WPCON
(operation stations) ,one Engineering Station (ENVOX with Alpha VMS OS
and Sybase database) and control and marshalling cabinets.I need to
get a copy(soft and hard) from the databse that is saved on ENVOX
station.I need the detailed steps and cooands to get a file contains
the whole databse that contains the definition of the whole points and
loops.I have no printers installed on the ENVOX and the ENVOX connects
with the PROVOX system through HDL,so how can I get a copy of this
file via network??
Please help me urgently taking into consideration that I do not know
any commands of VMS OS except backup and restore and know nothing
about SQL.

You need to be able to log into the Envox application as the first
activity. This is done by logging into the Envox account and then at
the $ prompt, typing Envox

$ Envox <return>

I don't have an Envox system in front of me right now, so please
forgive the lack of details below.

To back up the database, the best way is by creating a PDX file. This
can be done (with newer versions of Envox) in the database
administration forms.

If this is an older version of envox, the most portable way to back up
the database is by Exporting all Devices.
* Make a tag set of of all the devices
* Export the tag set.

This may not get all the Global devices (FSTs, PPA's, PMAs), which you
should export separately.

To document the database, is a bit more complicated.
You can print graphics from the graphic editor ... one at a time.
You can document and print each device (IFC, CHIP, WPCON)
You will likely need to document each FST independently since they are
global items.

To document without a printer, you go to the Document form and select
Detail. Type in the item or tag set name and then tell Envox to
document to a File and give a file name.

Once you have the file, you will need to get the file from the VMS
Computer.

To do that, the easiest way is using FTP.
If you have a HDL, then TCPIP is installed on the VMS machine. FTP
May or may not be enabled
You can find the IP address of the VMS machine in Envox
Diagnostics ... select the HDL node and it will have the IP address of
the host computer.

You can then connect up you PC and try to FTP to the VMS machine. Log
in with your Envox username and password.

If FTP is not turned on, you will need to log into the system account
and turn it on.

Typically Provox used UCX for its TCP stack. The command to set up
UCX is (If I remember correctly) is @ucx$config from the $ prompt.

In general ... sorry about the total lack of details in the above
response. I am not sure of your level of familiarity (obviously not
much, but the steps above could get you started)

Post a reply with what makes sense and doesnt make sense from the
above.

In general, call Emerson's Global Service Center and pay the fee for
the one time help. It will be worth it for this one, especially if
none of the above makes sense.
