I have FISHER PROVOX DCS SYSTEM.The system consists of two WPCON (operation stations) ,one Engineering Station (ENVOX with Alpha VMS OS and Sybase database) and control and marshalling cabinets.I need to get a copy(soft and hard) from the databse that is saved on ENVOX station.I need the detailed steps and cooands to get a file contains the whole databse that contains the definition of the whole points and loops.I have no printers installed on the ENVOX and the ENVOX connects with the PROVOX system through HDL,so how can I get a copy of this file via network?? Please help me urgently taking into consideration that I do not know any commands of VMS OS except backup and restore and know nothing about SQL.
we are about to upgrade our PROVOX DCS to new one from different manufacturer (YOKOGAWA) and they asked us about the logic of the system - the implementation database philosphy-so that they can use it in building the new system So how çan get it from envox in a readable format?
I have tried to Document all my database using :
More - Document - Select Detail - Form Style - All Items -output to file
but the follwoing error appears "F2769:Error-A file-spec has not been entered"

The error statement indicates you did not have a valid file name in
the blank after "output to file".
Watch out that you have enough disk space for the large file that can
result.
The eaziest way is to export the database as a .PDX file, then load it
on a ENVOX 5.0 NT system and use the advanced reporting to get all the
configuration data out.

In my experiance, to get the same data to text tables in VMS takes
Sybase SQL.

Still you will not get "the implementation database philosphy"
explictily and that can be important for long term maintainablity --
good luck.

There is a field for a file name.  It has to be filled in.

Try putting envox$disk:[envox]databasedocument.txt  in the field

Where databasedocument.txt is your file name.

That will create the file in your main Envox account.

If you connect to the alpha via FTP and use your envox username, the document will be in the top level.
