Ted Talks are increasingly popular with educators for use with the faculty as well as the students. However, it can be tricky to find just the right talk for the occasion since there are so many available.

I also like the brevity of this talk. Just under six minutes makes this a great talk to fill 10-20 minutes. Really, you can watch it and discuss in ten minutes, but I like to have a worksheet to go with it and students usually need an extra 5-10 minutes for the worksheet. Click here to watch it.

This talk uses some visuals, but nothing that is absolutely essential to the talk. I print out a transcript of this talk and keep it as a nothing-is-working-today back-up lesson. I keep copies of the worksheet and transcript in a folder for those rare crazy days when my projector breaks or the power goes out but you still have 20 minutes to kill while administrators determine what they want to do about the rest of the school day.

I love using this talk with my seniors, but again, it works with any middle or high school student. The opening of the talk is all about how he procrastinates writing a paper for school. Our students and most staff can relate to that.

Warning this talk starts off a little slow. The details of the subway ride are plentiful and there is video footage to go with it. But stick with it, because it picks up and this is one of the talks that seems to inspire the students to want to mimic it. One of my favorite extensions with this talk is to have the students come up with their own harmless prank that would bring smiles and positive vibes to the school. Click here to watch it.

There are a few options. Click here for a set of worksheets from my TpT store with specific questions for each talk listed above. I also include the QR codes at the top of each worksheet so students can access the talks on their own or through class.

Some teachers use these talks as a way to teach note-taking skills. The topics are interesting and engaging, and it is a bit more true to a college lecture than what you would otherwise see in a high school classroom. Many will practice Cornell Note taking or whatever other method of note-taking taught in class.

Everyone loves a funny Ted Talk, so I found five more (as well as one that is mildly amusing) that are quick, six minutes or less, and focus on leadership or building good character. Check out my worksheet and which talks made the cut by visiting my store.

This is my ninth year teaching. I'm certified in secondary English and special education. I love creating engaging lessons that help to reach all students regardless of ability. I don't post my real picture because I like to keep my privacy.

While slips, trips, and falls are no laughing matter when they really happen in one of your facilities, we can all agree that watching people stumble can be funny. Thanks to this video from Heerema Fabrication Group, we get a humerous reminder to be safe on the job and stay aware to avoid getting hurt.

We know you're busy -- the full film is a whopping 23 minutes long -- and in the spirit of taking shortcuts in the workplace, we are providing you with a condensed version (an unmoving still of the title track with the story of "Three Finger Joe" playing in the background).

Reddit remains the internet's best dumping ground for some of the funniest content out there. While Reddit has produced some great original material, users on the site equally love to pay tribute to amazing content on other sites.

This viral video tells such a compelling narrative whose complexity is further conveyed through the solid music choice that accompanies it. Give this video a watch to see this cat jump where no cat has jumped before.

Yahoo! Answers was a beautiful dumping ground for the strangest questions, and the most ridiculous spelling mistakes. This amazing video tackles the topic of pregnancy, and the internet's inability to even spell the word.

Liam Neeson's stern and cold delivery of every line in this sketch is absolutely hilarious. He takes his role of a hypochondriac to a whole other level that will remain forever untouched by actors for years to come.

This YouTube video is really sweet. When a bride and a groom are at the altar exchanging vows, the bride's husband-to-be accidentally says, "My waffl-y wedded wife," instead of "lawfully wedded wife." They crack up, the minister makes more jokes, and the entire audience also joins in on the laugh. Definitely a solid sign of a long and happy marriage.

Sometimes coming up with answers on the spot can be a little daunting, but this compilation video proves otherwise. Some of these just really GO for it you know? My favorite one is the person who is asked about a vegetable you marinate and he replies with "grapes." Iconic.

This video starts innocently enough with Ed Asner introducing himself, but then he takes a freaking knife out of nowhere? I need an explanation, but I'm also OK knowing Asner isn't here to mess around, I guess.

Helium needs to move aside because sulfur hexafluoride is here to snatch the crown for the best gas-induced funny voice. This old blooper shows a man inhaling this gas which makes his voice incredibly deep. This rule apparently applies to burps as well considering this man lets out an inhuman belch that will shake you to your core.

Cookie Monster apparently has an affinity for German industrial metal music. Watch this amazing collab between Rammstein and Cookie Monster that Reddit apparently hails as the world's most iconic duo.

A motivational speech about believing in yourself takes an odd turn when this man tries to break a "bored" using just his head. This does not turn out the way he expected it to. Perhaps if he believed in himself a little harder, this viral video would have a different ending.

Who would've thought that Tina driving a car in Bob's Burgers would translate so well in real life? While in this particular case there's a massive ship, its pretty likely the captain was experiencing the same feelings of anxiety as Tina did in this amazing dubbed-over video.

Take for example a person with depression. Their neurotransmitters in the brain, such as norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin, are reduced, and there is something wrong in the mood control circuit of the brain. Laughter can alter dopamine and serotonin activity, consequently increasing a person's mood. Laughter is so beneficial for mental health that psychologists have figured out ways to incorporate it into therapy. Laughter therapy, as a non-pharmacological, alternative treatment, has a positive effect on the mental health and the immune system. Robinson, Smith, & Segal, (2018) identified various ways that laughter can improve a person's mental and physical health, as well as the social benefits.

Comedy presents itself in many different mediums. While how the comedy appears varies based on the style and delivery of the comic, the end goal is all the same: make the audience laugh. Video can be a great way to deliver a funny story to an audience. Here are a few tips to help you deliver your humorous story through video.

Every comedian is different. Some can get very physical in the delivery of their punchline. Others make faces to sell the story they are telling. Covering a variety of angles allows you and the comedian to have much more flexibility while on stage. Additionally, it gives you a lot more flexibility when editing your funny videos.

As you tell your funny stories or deliver a punchline, be sure to capture the reaction of the person delivering the story and reaction of the audience (if there is one). Doing this will allow the deliverer to react to the elements of the story in a humorous way. Additionally, it will enable the person telling to story to connect with the audience.

One of the more traditional camera techniques used for funny videos is known as the quick zoom. It is a dramatic pull in whenever someone delivers a joke. The best way to describe the shot is to think of the villain of a story. After they deliver their evil plan, the camera can zoom in close to their face for a funny, dramatic effect.

A lot of comedic YouTubers use funny sound effects and visuals to make the video even funnier. Just look at the top subscribed creator on YouTube, Pewdiepie. His videos are always chock full of visual effects to help deliver his points. Additionally, sound effects and music help make the visual effects fit and make the scene funnier.

Sound effects and visual effects, while not required to be funny, really help keep visual interest and are random enough to keep the audience guessing what will come next. However, it depends on the content you are trying to make. Some videos will not fit with visual effects, while some do. It depends on the kind of ton of comedy you are looking to achieve.
