I unsubscribed from my Google calendar (annoyed by the constant prompts to re-authorize!) and now I'm trying to re-subscribe. I get through these wizard steps: New Calendar | Network | Google Calendar | Pick Existing Session.  Then at the Select Calendars screen there are no calendars shown and of course the Next button is grayed.  I am still subscribed to Tasks under the same Google account and they're still syncing.  I have tried removing and re-adding Provider, removing permission for Provider from my Google account (hoping that having the re-authorize might popular the calendar list but it didn't).  I stupidly tried unsubscribing the same Google calendar on another machine and now I can't re-subscribe on that one either.

Hi Jeffrey,
I have the same problem, Win 7 Home Premium, TB and Provider for Google Calendar like Mark; the same (permanent prompts to login) happens with some of my friends, whom I help out with Computer stuff.

What do you mean by "New Session"?

Ok, I downgraded Provider for google and then now it is working.

Funny thing is that version 4.4 was working ok under newly created debian user account. So I suspect newer version has some kind of conflict with older version.

What is also working: you go into your google account - calendar - configurations - click on the calendar you want to integrate into TB - copy the link "private address in ical format" under "integrate calendar", and then paste this link in TB creating a new calendar - in the network - iCalendar (ICS) being active into the referring box (as if it was not a google calendar). This works

For what it's worth I'm getting same on MacOS with Thunderbird 52.9.1 (64 bit) and v4.4.1 of the add-on.

Console gives following when trying to create a new calendar (on "Please select the caledars...." dialogue with no options available)

TypeError: impl is null[Learn More] network-monitor.js:314:7
TypeError: cal.view.hashColor is not a function[Learn More]  gdata-calendar-creation.js:183:47

Same for me on Windows 10, Thunderbird 52.9.1.  The only extensions I have are Lightning 5.4.9.1 and Provider 4.4.1.  Javascript and Cookes are both enabled.

Thanks Akiyo. I had tried downgrading to Provider 3.3 and it didn't help. Not sure if I didn't do something right or what but after reading your post I tried it again and this time it worked!  So thank you. Also, in case anybody is wondering, once I added the calendar I wanted to add, I upgraded back to 4.4 and I can access that new calendar. I still get an unpopulated list of calendars if I try to add another one but since I don't foresee needing to add any other calendars, that's ok.

As a last resort I upgraded Thunderbird to 60.0 (64 bit) after previously downgrading Provided to v4.4. I am hesitant to upgrade Provided back to 4.4.1 as it has fixed the issue I was having with a blank dialogue. (I am on MacOS 10.13.6.)

I only have 2 other add-ons installed, but clearly it wasn't those causing the issue.

YMMV

Interesting that 4.4 worked for you.  I tried downgrading from Provider 4.4.1 to 4.4 with no luck.  I had to drop back to 3.3.

Notes to all experiencing this problem:  Having the prompt come up for permission in Google to share your calendar may be an important part of getting an older version to work.  If the prompt doesn't come up you can manually force it by deleting permission for Provider directly in your Google account.  In any event, I've gone through the same steps on two different machines and had those steps fail at least once before they worked so if at first you don't succeed, try again!

This bug should be both in 4.4 and 4.4.1, I'm not yet sure what it is yet though. Can those affected let me know if they have other add-ons installed and if so which?

Thanks for looking at the issue Philipp.

I have had the same issue on: macos High Sierra (10.13.6), Thunderbird 52.9.1 (64-bit), Provider for Google Calendar 4.4.1.
Not sure when the problem started as I haven't added a calendar for a few months.

Using some tips from some other comments I managed to get it working:
- First I tried deleting Google authorisation and logging in again (didn't work)
- Then I tried the same but unsubscribing all 6 calendars for that account and restarting Thunderbird (still didn't work)
- Then I tried the same but unsubscribing a further 2 calendars with another Google account (for which I had to create a dummy local calendar as it doesn't let you have no calendar). This worked, letting me re-subscribe to my original calendars plus the new one.

Oh, forgot to say: the only other add-on I have (apart from Lightning) is gContactSync

With only the Lightning 5.4.9.1 and Provider for Google Calendar 4.4.1 addons installed, I was also experiencing this issue on Windows 10. In an attempt to fix, I removed all google calendars, then removed Lightning and Provider for Google Calendar. I restarted Thunderbird and reinstalled both addons. The addon is now working as expected and I can add Google calendars. Perhaps something is broken in the update process for one of those addons as starting fresh fixed the issue for me.

Recently Not able to add/save/close calendar entry in TB recently when some update happened automatically in background for Lightning 6.2.5 and Provider for Google Calendar 4.4.2. Unsubscribed all the google calendars but not able to resubscribe as the old google account won't disappear and not showing the items under the gmail account for choose for next step. Took couple hours to research and test for updating TB and related add-ons, until tried the following:
1. Unsubscribed all google accounts
2. Removed Provider for Google Calendar and Lightning
3. Restart TB
4. Reinstall Lightning 6.2.5 and Google Calendar 4.4.2
5. TB->File->New->Calendar again, choose the existing google account, now the items/options showed in configuration, choose Calendar and Task to complete the configuration
6. Google Calendar sync starts
7. After finish the sync, now can add/edit/save/close new calendar entry in TB for google calendar and sync back to Google.
