Sending Events to contact list

Is there any way to send an event to an email contact list that I have
created in my Thunderbird address book?

I have many lists done up to make sending out emails to my students
more efficient. Events are specific to particular groups of students
that I have made up.

When I tried to input one of my contact lists in the invite list I get
an error message. Although, it seems to work fine when I input the
names individually.
