I think this recently updated.  There was a popup saying Allow Provider to Manage Calendars (or something like that).  When yes was chosen, a lot of past event reminders reappeared.   I dismissed each one okay.

Now with reminders - if I click Dismiss - a popup comes up with - This Item has been changed on the Server and two buttons one with: Submit my changes anyway - the other with: Discard my changes and reload.   Choosing either of these by clicking twice - closes the window.   The item though is not dismissed.

So with events/reminders not being able to be dismissed is it better to downgrade to a previous version?

Could you enable calendar.debug.log and calendar.debug.log.verbose in the advanced config editor (Options > Advanced > General > Config Editor) and check the logs in the error console (Tools > Error Console) for what is happening when you do this?

It would be interesting to see what has changed in the event and if its accepted the way it is on the server. You can send me the logs via email if you don't want to make them public.

I enabled calendar.debug.log and calendar.debug.log.verbose in Thunderbird and closed it.    Then reopened it - and all the events had gone - except the two I entered today.   One had a reminder, and I was able to dismiss it.

But what about the other events.   Are they gone for good?   At least they still appear to be there in Google calendar and I have exported that to an ics file.

There is nothing in the error log of course.

Okay so I imported the ics file into Thunderbird.    Lose the categories and colours but never mind.   Probably this was not a good idea.

Now everything is duplicated in Google Calendar.     Delete some dupes from Calendar and then they disappear from Thunderbird altogether.

I'm thinking maybe the best strategy is to start again, create calendars from scratch and import the ics, but then the tasks and their status might be lost?

Surely the moral of the story is to make sure no application is set to auto update.   Reminiscent of Android updates.  Everything breaks when that happens.

I just want to add 'me too' to this one. This plugin is very necessary but despite tinkering with versions, various URLs etc, I can't reliably dismiss reminders on appointments.
I have a large number, some are externally invited, some are created from within the Google Cal UI and have third parties invited, so I havnt isolated the detail yet.
Right now all my Calendars loaded (i'm down to two at the moment; mine and my wife's) are yellow-triangled and despite being deselected, I continue to get a popup alert for an appointment (from 2 weeks ago!) that I can't dismiss.
Things were pretty good up untill 1.0.1 and the move to the new API :/

Well today brings more puzzlement.   The duplicate entries in Google Calendar have gone - there are no duplicates now.

In Lightning there was a reminder popping up that I could not dismiss.  Now that has gone.   The Lightning calendar is now blank.    And there is the yellow triangle that others have seen - Calendar is momentarily not available.

Ah yes, like others here I am getting (in Lightning Error Console):

[JavaScript Error: "[calCachedCalendar] replay action failed: null, uri=googleapi://email address/?calendar=username%40gmail.com&tasks=%40default, result={
 "error": {
  "errors": [

    "message": "Variable Term Limit Exceeded"
   }
  ],
  "code": 403,
  "message": "Variable Term Limit Exceeded"
 }
}
, op=[xpconnect wrapped calIOperation]"]

A couple of days ago (Oct 16th) - Lightning calendar got repopulated so that is nearly back to normal.   Presumably because the quota was increased.

But the fault originally specified in this thread remains.   I am not able to dismiss event reminders, nor put them into snooze, nor edit them.   This only happens with some events - others are fine.

Here's some of the Error Console messages:

[JavaScript Error: "[calGoogleCalendar] Missing ETag for Ical8b0cbc28a4004ba553216c26346a3263#20141017T170000Z#187705f3-80f4-4ea6-ab69-285d71c1b486"]

Okay I've sort of got rid of endless undismissable pop-up reminders on my computer.

By doing:

Disabled Provider for Google Calendar
Close and Reopen Thunderbird (now Lightning is blank)
In Google Calendar - delete the reminder for the entry.
Close and Reopen Thunderbird
In Lightning the sync'd Calendar is not selected.  Select it.
Press the sync button - and the offending item shows up without the reminder.

The trouble with this is that in Lightning only three events are  shown.   Perhaps the hundreds of others will show up later.
However if I try to add back the reminder - or otherwise edit the entry in Lightning I can't.

So the update is not working really.

And I am thinking also that calendars will not in future be available unless the internet is connected.  For me the lack of offline access will be a deal breaker, given how broadband outages have happened and will happen.

However for now I suppose we wait for bugs to be ironed out.
