In Thunderbird, go to drop-down Tools, then select Add-ons.

Remove both Lightning and Provider.  Removing Lightning may or may not be necessary, but do it anyway.

Restart Thunderbird.

Go back to Add-ons.

Reinstall Lightning. (search for it, then install).

Using your web browser, go to: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/provider-for-google-calendar/versions/

Download either version 0.25 or 0.32.  Save to Desktop.

Go back to Thunderbird Add-ons, and click on the little gear next to the search box (upper right).

Select Install Add-on From File.

Select the Provider .xpi file you downloaded to the Desktop.  Allow it to install, and then restart Thunderbird.

Go back to back to drop-down Tools, select Options, then Advanced tab, then Updates tab.  Click "Check for updates" or "Never Check for updates," as desired.  It is recommended to put a reminder on your calendar to revert this to "Automatically install," say, a month or so out, once all this trouble is polished out.

You will need to reset your Google Calendar settings - right click on the left column under Calendar, and follow the prompts for Google Calendar.

Thanks for posting the HOWTO. Although I'd rather figure out why things are going wrong instead of keep people on an old version that will be shut down by Google on November 17th, I acknowledge that some people need it now. More specifically, the API that version 0.32 is using will no longer be available, hence the major upgrade.

Note that once you've upgraded to 1.0 and up you will also need to re-subscribe to your calendars, otherwise you get a message with NS_ERROR_MALFORMED_URI.

Hi,
Instead of revert everything another solution is to use the addon Google Calendar Tab. Like this we can wait for Philipp to do a fix.
Philipp your work is great, even with the problem with your new version, keep going on !
If you need some help (debug log or anything) feel free to ask me (I am a developper also, then I understand that sometimes things are not going in the right direction ;-)

Cheers
Gael

Hi, I was getting the same "Variable Term Limit Exceeded" errors, so I rolled back to 0.32 as well.  Hopefully you can fix the new version before the 17th deadline!  Let us know if there's anything we can do to help, and thanks for the plugin.

I should add one more thing, or else Thunderbird will simply update Provider to the latest version, again, bringing you right back to square one.

Go to drop-down Tools, select Options, select Advanced tab, select small General tab, click Config Editor.  Click I'll be careful, I promise! (and actually honor that!).

Scroll down to app.update.auto, and click it to make the value false.

Scroll down more to app.update.enabled, and click to make the value false.

Now, just click away the window (top right, "X").

I highly recommend you set a calendar reminder to come back in the future and restore these to the defaults of "true," once the latest troubles are solved.

I appreciate competition, and am glad Google Calendar Tab is available, but I've come to love Provider, despite these troubles.  :-)

So I upgraded to 1.01, but when I select Google Calendar I'm asked to put in my email. When I do I get a screen to login and then a screen that talks about what Google is going to access. However, the next screen is this. It wants me to select a calendar, but there is nothing in the list.  Thoughts? I tried to downgrade to .32, but then I need to down grade Thunderbird as well because that version is not compatible with Thunderbird 24.6.0. So I'll have to downgrade Thunderbird as well. Solutions other than downgrading?

Ditto, I suddenly started to get this error.

[calGoogleCalendar] Login failed for x...@gmail.com HTTP Status: 403 Reason: variableTermLimitExceeded

and none of my calendars did read properly :-(  - it worked for a while though, a mystery to me.

Is there a reason you'd prefer not to upgrade to Thunderbird 31.1 or 31.2?  I'm using Provider 0.32 with no trouble.
