Dark Mode is an extension that helps you quickly turn the screen (browser) to dark at night time.Toolbar button serves as an ONOFF switch which enables you to easily and quickly turn the extension ON or OFF. If you do not like the current dark theme, please visit the options page and choose a different theme from over 50 available options.There is also a white-list feature which enables you to exclude a desired domain from dark mode. Simply add a domain(s) to the designated area (comma separated) in the options page and the websites will be excluded from night mode. Alternatively, you can use the context-menu item in mouse right-click to exclude desired websites.To report bugs, please fill out the bug report form on the add-on's homepage ( -mode.html).
In my first explorations of what Stack Overflow would look like in dark mode, I wanted to simply test swapping the white background for black, and reversing the color scales. With this approach, @red-050 became @red-900 with the values in the middle staying pretty much the same.
After just diving in technically proved to be a false start, I instead chose colors by hand in my design tool of choice Figma. I could design what Stack Overflow ought to look like without concern for how the original color values would map. Reducing the overall contrast was key to preserving depth in our interface, allowing elements to cast shadows, and displaying the full spectrum of colors.
We had trouble at the darker end of the spectrum for each color. When applying @red-900 and @blue-900 to a background, these colors were indistinguishable from black and each other. We needed an algorithm that would provide colors that still read as their primary hue at the lightest and darkest values, allowing us to build components from these color values.
I needed to convert static, Less-compiled hex values to runtime custom CSS properties. This meant storing our color values as var(--red-500) instead of a static @red-500. This was an interesting problem in our design system, and the site in general. We routinely take a single color value like @red-500 and lighten or darken for hover and focus states and things like backgrounds and border colors.
Once Stacks was in a place to ship its own dark mode, we opted to add a button on the top of the site to quickly toggle between them. Folks from Design and Engineering need to be able to switch between both views as quickly as possible.
This was most obvious when it came to our buttons. Over the years, we had various implementations of buttons. The last was the most frustrating since we targeted the button element itself for styling. This means that any button or input type="button" on the site would get default, super specific styling from a deprecated set of styles.
We originally implemented blockquotes with an overpowering yellow background that reduced the contrast of the quote itself. The yellow was also problematic when displayed against a dark background. Ultimately, we switched to the industry-standard single gray bar to represent block quotes.
Not counting the deprecation of Internet Explorer 11, work on dark mode started in earnest in July 2019 with an exploratory pull request. Prior to that, you can see some public discussion of what it might take to build a dark mode in April 2019. A proof of concept in the production codebase was hacked together in October 2019. After at least 60 follow-up pull requests, the dark mode beta went live on March 30, 2020.
After working in VS or something else with a dark theme background, switching over to the Workflow Designer or desktop client is a bit like flipping on the lights in the middle of the night and when I have to spend a lot of time in there working on something it would be nice to have a display option that's a bit easier on the eyes.
I'm sure it would take quite a bit of effort to go through and set up all the necessary styles for a dark theme option, but I for one would be extremely happy/grateful to have that option, especially in Workflow Designer.
Ugh, Windows keeps burying those settings in more layers of UI and hiding the actual values. It's supposed to flip everything when you change to what used to be "high contrast" black or similar Windows theme.
Having a built in dark mode option for the Go To Meeting website application and desktop application would be very useful. For me, I have sensitive eyes, so the the bright backgrounds can cause issues for me.
Hi @VBasham the Community team reviewed your idea, the GoTo Meeting Classic and GoTo app UI are dark by design, could you provide details and a screenshot if possible showing where you would like to see the change?
Status update: This feature is not currently planned to be included in our roadmap for this year. We will continue to keep the Idea open for comments and kudos. Your suggestions and support are highly appreciated, and we encourage you to continue sharing your thoughts and ideas with us.
As the topic title indicates.... it would be very nice to have for media environments and events. also we test a lot of media hardware here and often I leave a dashboard page open to look at device status and we often have the lights off or dim for movies and blaring white is a little distracting.
So funny watching them scramble their windows closed when I remoted on silently from the windows session server to assist them with an IT ticket. Lesson...If you are trying to pretend like you are working, at least have a document open you can hot-key to
IT workers look at screens a lot. White backgrounds put off a lot of unnecessary light.
I take it the color theme came from some committee that does not use the product. Maybe a marketing decision to show distinction.....from products that cater to the operator experience.
Whatever the case, at this point they are putting effort into avoiding this. It is a very easy win and they are the only product without it.
I'll give the above suggested plugins a try but native dark mode would indeed be preferable. I do find I have trouble differentiating between some of the colors on the dashboard, and the "Alternative color" mode is a good fix for that. But dark mode native would indeed be an added bonus for those of us who are light sensitive.
Yup. Just switched to the new view too. Its clean, I'll give them that. But still has a lot of the issues I always found frustrating, like the side-bar menu always popping out and getting in the way when my mouse just slightly brushes the edge. I did try the suggested Chrome plug-in and it does work nicely - although ads a little bit of lag when rendering pages as it re-draws and it's not always 100% accurate.
2018. It has gotten WORSE since this point... The branding available to MSPs allowed you to run a pathetic "Dark Mode" which merely greyed the menu bars and header. Fortunately this progress has now been reversed to be NEON GREEN AND BLINDING WHITE which also ruins all the branding that was the point in the first place.
Is it a brand recognition move? I see no tangible excuse not to do this. I am tired of staring into the sun.to run this product. It is not a technically difficult improvement to make. The shortcomings must fall on the incompetency of a headless committee. I am posting here to assure it is worth the effort to give us a dark mode and quite frankly at this point any product without it is not listening to operators. We all know how that goes long term......
Please not another UI change or update until we have Dark mode. Using a browser or OS dark mode is not smooth. I wouldn't be so hellbent on this if it wasn't so easy to fix. If Cisco want this product used more they are going about it oddly with the harsh color scheme on the primary interface. Seems like an incredible oversight. Surely the people building it had some complaints and headaches along the way? I am not asking you to change brand colors. I am asking to have a system that is comfortable to work in.
Wow so 2018 this was asked.....so much for this community's effectiveness. I hate companies that treat the user like this. Stupid branding colors are not worth giving the customer a migraine over. Who should we really be talking to to fix this?
Agreed this is nuts how they won't just change a few colors and add a button!! I've made 15 albums, got an award nomination, got my music in 3 games, and upgraded tons of systems and lots more in just 3 years lol.
I just wanted to acknowledge the messages here. I know it has been an ongoing request for a long time and with the new UI for Dashboard there's a lot of changes in the pipeline.
I'll make sure to flag this up internally again and continue to champion this request with our product management team.
If you ask support for help they tell ya "just post on the forum and it will be fixed" This is the most petty feature to withhold. It would not take long at all to develop. I am sure there are many changes in the pipeline. The only 1 I am asking for or want is dark mode. It is not an unreasonable request and it has been a literal eye sore for years. This just isn't getting it done. What is the explanation you get running the request up the flag?
Even when this is on blue text which you can't change is too hard to read on black background so I want to turn it off completely. I can't see how to turn off dark mode within JMP - does anyone know where it is? Currently have to turn dark mode off from Mac OS which turns off everything.
I'm not seeing the same thing you are. Please be sure to contact Tech Support (sup...@jmp.com) to report any issues you're having here. They'll be in the best position to make sure they get reported and tracked for correction in a future release.
We believe this particular issue results when users are using color presets in the Styles area of Preferences. The color presets that are provided seem to be entirely appropriate for Light Mode but do not adapt correctly when the OS switches to Dark Mode. In Dark Mode it seems the only color preset that works well is the one activated with the "Original" button in the Colors panel box (e.g., don't use anything in the Color Presets panel box).
