Hi Caolán,

CC-ing Dejan, Aleksandar and Strahinja.

As I can see the most recent hyphenation patterns are Dejan's
hyph-sh-cyrl.tex[0]. This file differs to older hyph-sr-cyrl.tex (which
is used repackaged in Strahinja's srtex[1] and mine OOo dict-sr[2]
package).

Some comments are removed and other small changes are presented.
See: http://goranrakic.com/tmp/hyph.diff

Dejan, can you add some comments on this?
Should we all use hyph-sh-cyrl.tex?

Caolán, your converted files are not valid. I guess you forgot to
convert hyph-sr-cyrl.tex from ISO-8859-5 to UTF-8 first.

Another thing is that I am not sure if hyphen release from
OpenOffice.org actually supports UTF-8 pattern dictionaries? Third and
last, it is known issue that hyphenation using dict-sr do not work
inside OpenOffice.org but it is working with standalone hyphen program.
I would like to test this and fix it proper.

But before everything else I would like to get some feedback from both
Dejan and Strahinja so we can all switch to one hyphenation dictionary.

Thanks,
Goran Rakic

Thanks Dejan.

I will now wait for Strahinja or Aleksandar to say if those changes are
some fixes or just relics from the past that can be ignored.

I accept your decision. There are still reasonable requirements when one
need to rename your hyphenation patterns as Croatian or Serbian. For
example in OpenOffice.org document language can be "hr" or "sr" and
appropriate hyphenation patterns are necessary for both language codes.

What I would like to see is some coordination so everybody can benefit
from fixes introduced in reused patterns. Are there any reasons (except
file naming and packaging) why special hyphenation patterns should exist
for Croatian, Bosnian and Serbian?

I have uploaded Croatian patterns from OpenOffice.org in hyphen format
(converted to UTF-8) to http://goranrakic.com/tmp/hyph_hr.dic

Dejan, are you interested to check if that can be merged with
hyph-sh-latn.tex? I can forward our conversation to Denis Lackovic (HR
aspell maintainer) and Robert Sedak (HR OOo coordinator) from HULK if
you would like.
