The ...in Death series of novels and novellas is written by Nora Roberts under her pseudonym J. D. Robb. Set in a mid-21st-century New York City, they feature NYPSD ("New York City Police and Security Department") lieutenant Eve Dallas and her husband Roarke. The stories also regularly feature other characters, including Captain Ryan Feeney, Detective Delia Peabody, Detective Ian McNab and Dr. Charlotte Mira.

First published in 1995, the series is ongoing as of 2021 with 50 novels and will continue as long as Roberts desires to write it. She has stated that the series will never contain one of Eve and Roarke's children,[1] as the series will end with Eve's eventual pregnancy.[2]

Eve was found in an alley in Dallas, Texas with severe injuries and evidence of extensive physical and sexual abuse. Her social worker named her and put Eve into a foster home. After reaching the age of majority, Eve has a big desire to move to New York City, where she hopes to become a police officer. Throughout the series, her memories return, mostly through a series of nightmares, revealing a history of incestual rape and the patricide of her father, Richard Troy.

Eve's police commander; her immediate superior. He is one of the few characters in the series, along with the Chief of the NYPSD, Tibble, who is identified as black. Eve respects him greatly. Whitney is a solid, excellent police officer, and for the most part is always on Eve's side. He has at least one daughter (a lawyer) with his wife, Anna Whitney, and endures stoically the parties his wife loves throwing. Surprising Eve, he gets along very well with Roarke and the two have, on rare occasions, smoked and drunk together.

Mira is the resident psychiatrist and profiler for the NYPSD. She has several children with her husband, Dennis, and has grandchildren as well. She is a pretty and feminine woman whom Eve often consults on her cases. Eve loves Charlotte very much but has not admitted it to her face; nevertheless, Charlotte knows. Charlotte thinks of Eve as a daughter, a fact which annoyed Mira's own daughter at one point, and throughout the series has gotten Eve to open up to her more and more.

"With the fifty-eighth irresistibly readable entry in the ever-popular Eve Dallas series, Robb (Payback in Death, 2023) continues to showcase her mastery when it comes to creating inventive plots generously spiked with nail-biting suspense and populated with compelling characters, including Eve, who never stops working to bring justice to the victims in every murder case she investigates." Booklist

Speaking of heartbreaking, the trip that Roarke and Eve take to Dallas and them finding the room Eve and her father were in when Eve finally kills him, is one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the entire series.

The In Death series is a futuristic suspense series written by J.D. Robb. The story is set in mid-21st-century New York City and it centers around Lieutenant Eve Dallas and her billionaire husband, Roarke. First started in 1995 the series is ongoing with no end in sight. While the author has said repeatedly that a baby would signal the end of the series Eve Dallas doesn't seem anywhere close to getting pregnant. There are 68 books in the series so far as of September, 2023.

I'm on book 14 and I've decided to try and just go for it and keep reading until I finish the whole damn series. I've been moving through them slowly while picking up other things. But I just love Nora Roberts and would like to have this series under my belt!

When it comes to romantic suspense transcending time, J.D. Robb is the name of the New York Times bestselling author everyone should be familiar with. Her Eve Dallas futuristic romantic suspense series has captured the hearts of millions of readers all around the world since 1995. Currently, the series is still going strong with almost 60 books published to date (and many more if we consider the novellas and short stories as well).

While the series is set in the future and there are some gadgets, tools, cars (ok flying cars and spaceships), the books are really contemporary in nature. They are not sci-fi thrillers, but tried and tested futuristic romance, aka romantic suspense novel series adored by readers worldwide.

Reading the JD Robb series in order only means reading her novels. This alias has only one series of books, which are still going strong even after close to 50 books in the series (with the latest one, Payback in Death, published in 2023).

I have to admit, I love the series. Very much so. Her books around police detective lieutenant Eve Dallas and her hubby Roarke, make my heart beat fast even now, after years of reading the first installment, Naked In Death.

The series is set some years in the future (when intergalactic travel is a very normal thing to do if you have the money for it), although to be honest, the only futuristic aspect is this travel between planets, stars, and moons.

While the J.D. Robb series does tend to be a bit repetitive and formulaic if you read the series in order without pause, they are still some of the best romantic suspense novels of all times and people buy them as soon as the latest J.D. Robb books are out.

So should we read the J D Robb novels in chronological order for her lieutenant Eve Dallas series? While each story is different in terms of solving a particular case, I strongly suggest you read them in the right chronological order. The main and secondary characters are all the same, and you will get to learn not only their interaction with each other but also their development and evolution within the settings of the books.

One of the books I have reviewed in the In Death series, Festive In Death, was published in 2014 and it was the 39th book in the J.D. Robb series. Only three short years, and now we are at #20 with Golden in Death, to be published early 2020.

Allison Brennan is the author of twenty novels, including the Lucy Kincaid series, and many short stories. A former consultant in the California State Legislature, she lives in Northern California with her husband Dan and their five children.

J.D. Robb started writing the series in 1995 with Naked in Death and continues to this day. Currently, there are well over 40 books in this series and by the time you read this, there may be well over 50 or 60! Robb tends to write 2 or 3 In Death novels per year.

OH.EM. GEE!!! This has got to be the longest series I have ever had the privilege of creating a reading order guide for. And WOW does it look good. Recommended over and over again by fellow book enthusiasts, I was delighted to find out that J.D. Robb is Nora Roberts (I love her books!).

I came across the in death series by accident and only have the last three to read. I am a huge fan of Nora Roberts and she has never disappointed with these or her other books. I cant wait for her to keep adding to it. Very rare can an author have so a long running series and continue to keep you in touch with all of the characters.

Personal comments.
I like stories and TV series with strong women. So Eve Dallas and Anita Blake among others (A.B sometimes boring with the complicated sex scenes but i like her)
TV-serials like Against the Wall/Missing(2012)/Being Erica/ Tru Calling/ In Plain Sight/Unforgettable(wrong choices in men!? whatever)/Fairly Legal/Crossing Jordan show that the people that make the decisions are more interested in brothel series(bachelor/ millionaire/farmer) and i miss out.Still can review them!!

I LOVE!!!!! the In Death series. A friend gave me a few books and I loved them. I got a nook and have been able to start at the beginning and have now read 39 of her books. I just finished Concealed in Death. I am anxiously awaiting hew next books.

I am now reading this series for the 2nd time! First started in June of 2006 and read all that were available at that time. Then I parked the books in my bookcase, meanwhile buying any new ones that came out. Now, in 2019 I am reading every book again! So far am on book #18 and enjoying every one just as much as I did the first time around! Love this series!

I love the in death series. Eve Dallas is the soul of every woman & Roarke is the perfect picture of the dream prince lover. I love the new couples. Keep writing this wonderful script & I ll keep reading.

Fans who follow the series will be the first to tell you how thrilling and captivating the storytelling has been. There have been family stories and there have been storyline trilogies. A relationship that starts in one book does not necessarily end there. Most will go on into the next book and probably the one after that. This keeps the audience interested and coming back for more.

It hardly matters if it is Nora Roberts you are reading or if it is J.D. Robb. You will be delighted. You will enjoy your romantic suspense married with crime and mystery regardless. The In Death book series takes you into the near future and stimulates all your emotions with aplomb like only J.D. Robb can.

On the streets of New York, Eve Dallas must track down a highly methodical killer with the help of her trusted sidekick Peabody. This particular series of murders are connected through the precision with which they enacted, leaving the victim having a vital organ almost surgically removed it seems. Not only that a fellow cop has been found dead as well, a death which Eve Dallas finds herself inextricably linked to. Why are these murders happening? Who could be carrying them out? What is behind the conspiracy in death?

She has more than 230 books to her credit, with more than 400 million copies in print. Having written mostly in the romance genre, the futuristic In Death suspense series made an interesting new departure for her, and gained her a whole new and devoted readership.
