Its not wise to store the recovery key on flash drive, for example. That means anyone that steal my computer and my flash drive can easily decrypt my recovery key. That defeats the purpose of encrypting it in the first place.

Check if you have any firewall or DNS blocking anywhere on your network. I am running a pi-hole local DNS server to block advertising/tracking and turns out the server used by bitlocker to store the key was being blocked, so none of the local settings made any difference. I turned filtering off for a few minutes and it worked straight away.

I researched several sites and possible solutions for this issue. But after trying them all to no success, I backed up my files on my PC and did a complete systems reset. After the reset I was able to back up my Recovery to Azure AD and enable Bitlocker comfortably.

If you try to backup from the standard user, it requires elevated privledges, so will require the admin user's password. This then fails to backup as it's (presumably) trying to use the MS account for the local admin user.

I've been banging my head against the wall on this one a while and tried just about every tutorial option I can. It's far too much to explain every one of the options I've tried. The short version is that no matter what I do to enable BitLocker in some manner or another I end up with an error about not being able to find a file like what is shown in brief here...

I get the same error message if it's with a password, recovery key, TPM... makes no difference. I get a similar, but not as verbose of an error, when I use Manage-BDE.exe to attempt enabling BitLocker.

I've reformatted a few times. I've tried before and after domain join. Before/After feature add-ons. I've tried clearing the TPM on several occasions. I've tried having Secure Boot enabled/disabled in the BIOS. I've enabled/disabled/destroyed/rebuilt the Windows recovery partition as well as the ReAgent.xml file.

I'm basically out of options and looking for anything I can get for help. What I ultimately want it to do is boot from just the TPM and have the option for recovery password and optionally a recovery key.

It helped me solve it. It seems that Server Core App Compatibility produces the problem, after removing it you can proceed with bitlocker and later re-enable Server Core App Compatibility. There's also updated info from MS, with which you can avoid removing and re-enabling (I haven't tested the later).

I would like to seek assistance. i have key in recovery key after my PC requesting bitlocker recovery key. however, after i key in the number, i received an error ""]Failed to unlock with this recovery key". But the key number is i retrive from Sophos Central. Anyone can assist on this issue?

Aside from the above steps that you've done, have you tried slaving the drive on a different device and then unlocking the drive? If not? You can try the said option by following the steps stated in this KB article.

The main reason why BitLocker failed to unlock with this recovery key is an incorrect key or password. Besides, a temporary glitch, improper BitLocker settings, the drive itself, or other unknown factors are also responsible for the BitLocker password not working.

Step 4. Run the following command to disable BitLocker for drive C. Then you can exit the Command Prompt window and restart the computer to see if the BitLocker password not working issue gets solved.

Sometimes the correct BitLocker recovery key not working issue is related to the encrypted drive itself. If the drive gets corrupted, BitLocker may stop accepting the recovery key or password even if it is correct. In this case, reformatting the drive can help you fix the problem.

How to fix the BitLocker recovery key not working in Windows 10/11? We have introduced 5 common troubleshooting methods in this post. If you have any other solutions to the problem, please share them with us in the following comment zone.

hello I have a problem when entering a partition that uses bitlocker it turns out that I put the recovery key to access the partition but I get the ERROR Unlocking /dev/sda3: Failed to activate device: Operation not supported. Before this did not happen to me but now it happens every so often when I put the recovery key.

I've been through this three times. I have a new Surface Pro 8 with Windows 11. Installing Photoshop Elements requires a restart, and that restart fails. Windows then cannot recover, until I get my bitlocker recovery code and do a complete system re-install, which erases all apps and settings.

Thanks for this, it was very helpful. According to this info, only Photoshop Elements 2022 (the newest) is supported on Windows 11. My version of PE is older, so I'll happily pay for the new version; I've been meaning to upgrade anyway.

However, please please also make the dev and QA teams aware that customers who purchased older versions of PE and install them on new Win11 laptops are experiencing catastrophic system failure requiring OS reinstall, as an immediate and direct result of installing the Adobe product. It's one thing say the old PE isn't supported on new Windows, but another if the old PE tanks the OS and makes it fail to boot. I can repro this issue, but wow I would really prefer not to.

After installing Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 on my new LG gram, I rebooted and it was stuck on the LG splash screen. I had to enter my Bitlocker key and reinstall Windows. I agree with you that it's a catastrophic failure.

I noticed the errors before reboot mentioned that Memory Integrity settings were preventing drivers from loading. So, Iwent to the Core Isolation settings and turned off Memory Integrity. As an extra measure I turned off real-time scanning for McAfee and installed as a trial and added the license later. I was able to install Premiere and Photoshop Elements successfully without tanking my system. The only downside was that I couldn't re-enable Memory Integrity because of an incompatible driver from Corel Corporation called PxHlpa64.sys. It's supposed to be part of the PX Engine used by Roxio for burning DVDs. I don't even have a DVD drive, so I renamed the file in C:\Windows\System32\drivers to PxHlpa64.old and re-enabled Memory Integrity and rebooted. I was able to launch all of the Adobe programs. I don't know if it will work out long term, but it seems to be working for now.

I use BitLocker Drive Encryption to lock one partition. Everything goes well, but after I send my Dell Inspiron Laptop in warranty they changed motherboard and BitLocker doesn't recognize correct password or BitLocker recovery key. I am sure that my password is correct. My warranty changed just my motherboard and they don.t change nothing in my hard drive. I didn't reinstall my Windows. How can I access data in BitLocker encrypted drive?

It is common that you can't unlock the BitLocker drive after changing OS/motherboard of your PC, or encountering the 'Error recovering disk: A recovery key was not found on the drive. The drive cannot be unlocked.' error, even though you're using the correct BitLocker password or BitLocker drive encryption recovery key. It means you cannot access the data on your BitLocker encrypted drive. Luckily, here are some instructions on what you can do when your BitLocker password or BitLocker recovery key not working.

If you are sure the BitLocker password is correct, it means BitLocker encrypted drive has been corrupted so that BitLocker stops accepting the correct password. In this situation, try method 5 to recover data from BitLocker encrypted drive.

If the correct BitLocker recovery key is not working, it means BitLocker encrypted drive has been corrupted so that BitLocker is not accepting the correct recovery key. In that case, try method 5 to recover data from BitLocker encrypted drive.

Sometimes, BitLocker encrypted drive can be unlocked with the correct password or BitLocker recovery key on another computer. For example, if you encrypted the drive with New Encryption Mode built-in Windows 10, the BitLocker encrypted drive cannot be unlocked on Windows 7 or 8 computers even if the BitLocker password or recovery key is correct.

BitLocker encrypted drive can get corrupted unexpectedly after years, how to recover data from corrupted BitLocker encrypted drive if BitLocker encrypted drive doesn't accept the correct password or BitLocker recovery key?

I have a few windows VMware virtual machines which have bitlocker enabled for all drives. These machines are backed up using "VMWare" policy type. When i try to perform a file level restore, it does not seem to work. All these servers are Windows 2019 and 2022 servers. The drives are encrypted and unlocked. The "Enable file recovery from VM backup" option is enabled in the backup policy. I get a message saying "There are no files matching teh specified criteria".
