I recently began having issues with printing to my EPSON Artisan 810--my iMac can find it and print one job, but then can no longer find the printer until I power the printer off and back on again. The EPSON is attached wirelessly to my network and at all times I can go directly to the printer's ip address and see/manipulate controls on the printer. I have used the printer and scanner regularly over the past two years until this recent set of issues. I believe all drivers are current and I cannot pinpoint any change recently that might have led to this issue. I'm currently running Yosemite and my iMac and communicating to the printer through the network.
I, too, found that it was one of my two routers causing my Epson Artisan 810 printer to have the "filter stopped" issue that wouldn't allow for wireless printing. Fortunately, all I had to do was reboot the main Uverse router. Unfortunately, this was after I spent a couple hours of my life frustrated while trying other fixes. :-(
Was having the same problem. Here's how I fixed it. In the printer/scanner window in Preferences delete the printer. Then click the add printer plus sign. Click the IP button. In the top box insert the ip address which can be found in the confirm network settings window on the printer if it's properly installed on the network. (If it's not return the printer to factory settings and reinstall the network settings and password. For the password go to the second page of security options and select the WEP version on that page.) For the protocol select the Line Printer Daemon. For Name it will default to the IP address but you can use anything you wish. Then select the arrows on the right edge of the Use: line. Select the proper printer from the list. Then click the add button. That should do it. Worked on two printers for me.
Thanks for the suggestion, this procedure sounded like exactly what I'm looking for. However, it did not fix the problem. Unfortunately, I've now lost the ability to print at all from my iMac yet the scanner (same device) is detected and works just fine using Image Capture. I can view the ink supply levels on the device using the System Preferences -> Printers & Scanners interface. I can also view and manipulate the printer via a browser at it's ip address. I have the same results whether the printer is hooked up wired or wirelessly. Looking at the print queue, it tells me "Printing - Looking for printer" until it finally fails and tells me "Stopped - 'Filter' failed, 1 page",
My MBA was also seeing the printer not found, so I simply deleted the printer and re-added it and it works flawlessly from the (Yosemite) MBA. The MBA, unlike my iMac, asked me if I wanted the application epsontcpip to accept incoming network connections. I chose Allow and received one each for the printer and fax (same device). On the iMac, I just saw two entries show up in the Add (printer) menu--one kind was "Bonjour Multifunction" and the other was "Epson Fax". I got no message on the iMac about allowing incoming network connections to epsontcpip.
I've also leaned that I can open the printer utility using System Preferences -> Printers & Scanners and clean the print heads, query ink levels, etc with no issue. However, if I choose to Print Test Page, nothing happens. All of this works fine from my MBA.
Just a word of caution: the Artisan 810 hasn't been supported for quite some time; I had to give up on mine more than 2 years ago as it would no longer cooperate with whatever OS I was running at the time. That is when Epson told me that they would no longer support it. So, I am surprised you got it to work at all; unfortunately, I have no new ideas for you. That was one of the best printers I ever had.
Thanks for the comment--I do agree this is a great printer, which is why I've tried to keep it going. In fact, I went through various options and cnet reviews looking for another printer and it re-energized me to get this working. My iMac seems to lose track of this printer after one successful operation--and I keep running across mentions of Bonjour--it makes me wonder if that service is somehow related to this problem. Let me share my latest attempts and results:
Unfortunately not from me - as I said, I gave up about 2 years ago. If you do need a decent replacement: I decided on the Canon MG7520 (already a year old now, so there is no doubt another model that took its place) and it's very good. No fax though.
I followed the instructions there, even though it is quite similar to what I've done above. There was no change in my problem. I'm caving and buying a new printer--I'm just paranoid the problem will remain since my current printer works fine from other macs in the house.
I finally solved this problem! Fortunately, I tried another working printer before I just bought another and it showed the same problems. I also tried another computer--a MBP (also at 10.10.5) and it showed the same symptoms as my iMac. The faulty device was a fancy new network router I had installed. Once I switched back to my old wireless router, all worked exactly as it used to. Why this would work 100% from my MBA but not from my iMac, I have no idea. I believe it has something to with the wireless being broadcast on two different SSIDs--I did notice the printer(s) could only see the 2.4GHz signal, though I have no idea why this would work 100% for the MBA but not for the iMac or MBP.
My Epson Artisan 1430 worked perfectly for about a year then stopped. The Ink and Paper Feed lights are both flashing and the Epson driver/software says I have a paper jam. Here's the message I'm getting:
Mine just did this also. I put through a piece of cardstock yesterday and it made a funny noise. I printed one regular sheet after that. today, I get this message, but this is not the first problem I have with this printer, Epson 2700. The cyan ink got plugged up and stopped all color printing after only about 50 sheets. A full tank, but won't work. Very disappointed in this printer
my epson 405 has been good until couple of months ago, i always used the correct genuine inks even though they are expensive and it has now decided to tare paper up and make a cranking noise as paper starts to feed ready for printing. i have removed all paper, restarted, unplugged, but no joy. They probably have a lifespan so that they run out just after the warranty period!! as do so many items nowadays!
As for the 1430 issue, I found that if I print within the natural borders of a selected page size, such as not try borderless or over print the paper for whatever reason, the paper jam light does not come on. It is rather tricky trying to get the 1430 in the right mood to print but it usually goes well with a fresh boot for the computer, then the printer, then select the print paper type, size, and the document or photo size and do not choose borderless. There is obviously a communication issue between the Epson drivers and Win10. I am using an independent driver set from another company and the printer never fails and I can over print with this independent driver, which means, Epson needs to come up with a patch for their drivers. I have yet to see a printer do any better than the 1430 on a consistent basis and print CD/DVDs.
On a side note with 1430's, I used to whine about the price of Epson Ink but I found that 3rd party inks usually fade pretty fast if one is doing photos. Is the cheaper ink worth loosing a great photo in a couple years?
Turn the printer off, wait 10 or more seconds, turn it on and while the ink carriage is scanning back and forth, unplug the power while it is anywhere but the extreme right. Once the power is unplugged, you can slide the carriage to the left and check out all the little nooks and crannies for bits of paper, lint or debris. When you are satisfied that all is well, plug the power back in and the printer will reset and be ready for use. If it does not move when you plug it back in, you may need to press the power button.
By the way, while the power is on, usually one can press the ink error button (right button with the droplet icon) and the ink carriage will move into the cartridge change position. At this point, unplug the power cord and the carriage will move freely. Please do not try to move it with the power still on. Not a good idea.
Let's Power off the epson printer for 10 minutes. now power it back on. if the error still continues, you need to reset the printer. to do that, you need to go to the factory restore default settings. now click on the factory reset the printer. Once, your printer will be restored. your device will start working fine. for more details, you can visit: How to fix Epson printer says Offline problem?
I bought an AV not a firewall system on purpose, but your AV acts like a freaking firewall. My epson printer worked great wirelessly until I installed your NO OPEN DOOR AND WE NAILED ALL THE DOORS SHUT software on my system. I have an Epson Artisan 837. It is 12:45. I teach at 7:20 in the am. The printer was working magically until your software came along. I have gone in to advanced settings and told your software to allow every Epson file in the world to work and nothing. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the Epson software and nothing. I even supposedly turned off your software and still NOTHING.
Disabling one of the protection modules must have helped if EAV was actually somehow involved in the issue. Did you try disabling HIPS and restarting the computer? What about renaming C:\Windows\System32\drivers\ehdrv.sys in safe mode? If it doesn't help, does uninstalling EAV actually makes a difference?
Also it may be a better solution to add the router/gateway address and or the IP of the printer (since its wireless) into the protocol filtering for applications and/or protocol filtering for excluded IP's.
