Hello All,
The mukhtar main judgment has left a lot of us angry and dissapointed. A few of us met today at the Aurat Foundation and talked about what we could do. There were women from WAR who talked about similar cases, about the judgment always going against the rape victim, whether its because of evidence which is maliciously manipulated or removed by the police or witnesses being threatened to change their testimonies or chauvinistic judges using small technicalities to accquit the accused....Hundreds and thousands of women fail to get justice in this country.
There was discussion about taking the Mukhtar Main case and using it as a turning point to not only speak out against the judgment but talk about the oppressive criminal justice system which is the reason these women and so many other marginalized groups in our society don't get the justice they deserve.
