What version of Prototype are you using? Can you post a link or a cut-down example that duplicates this message? Is this coming from within Prototype, or from a script that depends on it?

I found the error at last!

Turns out, that deep within the included codefiles, Prototype.js was included a second time.
Once I removed that second inclusion, all was well :-)
