Hi,

Are there any plans to release 1.6.0.3?

Just checking since the deadline on Lighthouse says 'Late' while the
outstanding issues have had a patch attached for some time. We would
love to get our sites working again on newer versions of Opera and
Safari.

Thanks and God Bless,

Johan

Ah well, core is not as active as it once was.

Lighthouse shows Expected: Apr 16th

Since we can't afford to wait we'll be looking into some other
frameworks with more activity.

Thanks anyway,
Johan

Dude, I don't know what planet you're living on, but where I live 15
Aug was Friday and today is Monday.

Judging the activity of an ENTIRE project by the mailing list activity
over the weekend is simply silly.

Jeff,

I guess you didn't read my entire mail.

It's based on Lighthouse showing 1.6.0.3 being expected on Apr 16th.
That's 4 months ago.

Regards,
Johan

Nope, I read it. Just because the release date for 1.6.0.3 was 16
April and it's now August doesn't mean that Prototype has stagnated.
For at least half the planet, it's summer time. People do things like
vacation. I know Tobie is/was busy hacking on Prototype to make it
work with Caja. And if you've been following the discussions here
recently, I think the team has been thrashing out some very pressing
issues.

I'm not even a huge proponent of Prototype, but it really feels like
you're just looking for an excuse to try another framework. And to
that end, I'm rising to the bait... so I won't any more.

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather stay away from other frameworks. I'm
just trying to make a living, I can't afford to go on vacation for
four months.

I've been following the discussion, most of it is 1.6.1 related
brainstorming. So I guess core is busy brainstorming and building
experimental forks. People like me simply want to know when and what
to expect. Staying on Prototype would be easier if we are kept
informed on this. Even if it was only a timeline that showed some
actual deadlines, that shift when they are late. Indicating that a
release is late for four months just doesn't help anyone.

Prototype ends up losing users like this, you can't have an active
community without an informative core. Have a look at the different
framework irc channels if you don't know what I mean. Even if they
only slightly indicated the activity of each framework, it doesn't
seem to be going in the right direction for us. I would love to keep
using Prototype so this is just some advice.

Johan,
We have made over 110 commits since 1.6.0.3 - almost all of those are
bugfixes and performance improvements. I agree that activity has
slowed down for the last few months, but as Jeff pointed out - 1) it's
a summer time and 2) there are many crucial things that need to be
discussed regarding future releases (for everyone's benefit)

If you don't mind "living on the edge", feel free to grab latest trunk
version - you won't be disappointed. If you have any particular
requests/ideas, we will gladly hear them out.

Best,

Thanks kangax,
I'm using trunk wherever I can, that's working out good so far.

Another idea/suggestion for the future is that I believe users would
prefer more frequent smaller releases instead of one big release with
100+ commits. I'd rather be using a stable 1.6.0.4 right now instead
of a trunk if you know what I mean.

Johan

Yeah, I know what you mean ; )
Hopefully, this won't happen again in the future.

Cheers,
