It assumes only the 16 people who have officially registered (filled out the form) are paying members. Of that 16, I assumed only 2 ppl would need a discounted rate (e.g. student status). We are close to making this fly -- three more members and we break even. I simple way to think is that we need two discount rate members to pay the fees of one full rate member. Thus, the budget I have laid out requires 18 people paying in at $50/mo.
It uses 245 Duckworth as the location. To be clear, no decision as yet been made on the physical space. But since I wanted something tangible to discuss as a "what if" scenario.
There are ways of trimming this down a bit (holding off on internet, reducing the amount of liability ins.) to be able to squeeze out a balanced budget in the short term. Alternatively, a few of us could "prepay" a few months under the assumption that more members will join in the future. Regarding, the money paid in already by people, I propose we count that towards your "monthly dues". If people want to make a donation over and beyond this monthly amount, they are of course most welcome to do so. But this would keep everything fair.
The goal of this budget is to covering the monthly operating costs of ProtoShed. Equipment, furnishings, renovations, supplies, computers, etc. will all have to be funded as well. But, those are things we can be much more creative about finding solutions. Also, they not not represent an ongoing financial commitment.
I'll bring hard copies of this budget to the meeting tonight. It might possible that we might make the decision either this week or next to start collecting monthly dues (Perhaps Jul 1, 2012 as a nice, clean start date?) . If you have signed one of those pieces of paper and know that you are completely unable to support this project at this time, please let me or one of the Directors know.
