Hi, I just installed arch. I'm having a bit of trouble getting my audio to work. At the moment I hear absolutely nothing
First of all, after looking at a few posts i've done a few things... including:
Stop pulseaudio and ensure to make audio work w/o it first.
There's an auto-mute feature that might misfire. Assuming your're hoping for sound from the speakers, try to plug in headphones (but nb. that HP volume was 0% in your info dump, so ensure to raise that as well)
Ok, after stopping pulse audio, I've unmuted Headphones in alsamixer and I plugged them in and ran speaker-test again and it works. However when I dont have headphones plugged in, the speaker test does not work
Hey, I am a new user of linux and decided to go with Arch linux, I used archinstall when setting this up and chose pipewire for the audio. The problem is that no audio is heard when I play any video, the audio card does not show up, the F-keys for increasing, decreasing and muting volume are not working. I have no clue what to do and any googling I do leads to no result. Other than this issue, my wifi connection is not shown in Connections in my settings, I use KDE and the Breeze Dark layout. Sorry if I have not shown any logs, I don't know what to show nor what the problem is. Any help is appreciated alot as I really want to get familiar with linux.
You will need to tell us a bit more about your system. What type of audio? HDMI? Bluetooth? Wired speakers?
I assume you are using Alsa and Pipewire. You probably want to start with Alsamixer and ensure everything is unmuted. And you may want to install and play with pavucontrol.
About the second link most of the solutions are for pulseaudio, for default I have pipewire, and a friend with a laptop similar to mine has pipewire too, the laptop is a Huawei Matebook 14 Ryzen 5 5500U; only thing I used of the link was:
EDIT 3: The problem is that the audio and video works only on devices connected to my network at home. Once another person joins that is not connected to my Wi-Fi, the audio and video stops working until that person leaves.
I mean, how often do audio components change one's life? Well, the CD 2.1x/II and CD 4.1x opened up whole new worlds of listening and learning for me that I'd been mostly overlooking, which had a dramatic impact on my enjoyment of audio and exploring new music.
I love integrated audio components. Long time readers know I'm a big fan of integrated amplifiers, like the Audio Note (UK) Meishu Phono Silver Tonmeister 300B SET integrated amplifier (reviewed HERE), for example.
Generally speaking, I also like having fewer components in my audio systems, which makes setup and optimization of performance easier, and reduces the number of interconnects and power cords needed. Another win-win.
I was able to make endpoints and register them using several different softphone clients on different hardware devices. The only issue is, I get no audio when calling the different endpoints. I can see that the dialplan I made is working properly (to my knowledge). When calling the endpoints, they ring and I can pick up. I have tested this on several networks and clients, but I still get no audio. Also made an extension that plays the Hello-World sound, but sadly I get no audio here either. Here is some extra information:
For visitors, the Youth Audio Guide section is indicated by the 200 series numbers next to the pieces and is available to all visitors, just like the rest of the audio guide. You can even access it online.
I do not have any sound output. I am running a Soundblaster Z soundcard which is recognized in alsa and set as my default audio device. In alsamixer nothing is muted and turned up. Spotify and speaker-test display no results.
I just got a new pc and downloaded the desktop version (which I used on my old pc) and I am having an issue where it will not play from my default audio device. I have to switch back to my laptop speaker (realtech) and then switch back to my default device and then it will play. But it will only play ion the left side of my headphones.
The right side of my headphones do work when I do an audio test. They also work if I use the browser version, Youtube and other desktop programs I use. This problem occurs only with one other separate desktop program.
After clean install and on live usb audio works flawlessly.
But after doing latest updates (which include audio related stuff as far as i can tell) audio devices cant be toggled and sound comes always out of the wrong device.
Now for update and audio stuff
There is no such perfect way to install update you can use any of those from commend line with dnf or from software center gui way do it.
Now for audio if after reboot your audio breaks. We can try to solve that particular issue.
For that we need some info
Provide inxi -Fzx
Fedora switch to pipeware wireplumber for audio and stuff so initially you can try to see if those services are running.
systemctl --user status wireplumber.service
Edit: we have pre build a topic about that same issue for look up.
Going into system settings and trying different audio outputs seems to do not have any impact at all as none of my outputs gets sound as far as I can tell. In previous installation I had sound from the terminal app coming out of one output at least. Now I think there is another device selected from which I do not get output due to not having audio hardware installed on all devices.
Atm the default audio output the system uses can not be changed by gnome-settings. Changing output device does not work. Closing gnome-settings and re-opening it proves this. Setting does not get applied.
So I thought maybe F36 with wp 0.4.10 will work. At first it was a hassle really to get the upgrade even installed (different topic) but after that: nope - audio does not work. Downgrade to wp 0.4.4 not available with dnf.
Yes, but pulseaudio is no longer supported on Solus and the server may be removed in a future package update. It would be better to figure out the root cause of this issue so we can get it fixed before then with PipeWire. It looks like SOF might not be loading your firmware, can you try sudo journalctl -b0 > bad-audio.log and upload it to Pastebin? Paste the link here.
Hey guys. Just got Windows 10. Seems fresh. After navigating through the maze of questions regarding how much of your data you'll let Microsoft sell, you actually get to a pretty neat OS. I'd recommend it.
However, I have run into a pretty crippling issue. Audio doesn't seem to work. Speaker icon in the bottom right shows that no audio device is installed. Obviously this is a driver issue; speakers works fine on OSX. I have the Windows Driver support software from the boot camp assistant installed on a USB drive. I've used it to re-install some certain drivers (including the Realtek audio chipset), and used the general repair function, but I've had no luck.
Anyway, if I head to the device manager in windows 10, I will see the error on High Definition Audio Controller like I mentioned earlier. If I uninstall that, and then immediately go into Bootcamp support software and do a repair, that device will re-install itself. Still with the error. This leads me to believe that the Bootcamp driver is simply not working. For whatever reason. My only idea is that I would need to go get a driver manually. Does anybody have further information on where I could go to manually obtain the drivers necessary? I've read different types of drivers would be needed from several places, so I'm not sure which ones will be particularly responsible for the audio.
I reinstalled ALSA and I checked that the right outputs were displayed in Alsamixer. I also installed Pulseaudio to see if that could help me but it couldn't. Advice followed: -sound-ubuntu-1304-quick-tip/
I'm very new to this operating system and in the end I figured that I've run so many commands through the terminal which I wasn't 100% sure of their functions, its possible that my attempts to fix the problem had made the problem worse. So I have decided to install a completely fresh version of Ubuntu and collected the default ALSA information you can see here: -project.org/db/?f=6530dd42ed029f7f0b5be945d53aa3891edd7110
I followed your advice and installed Pavucontrol. When I opened the application I could see my output device was listed as 'speakers' but on playing audio there is still no sound coming from them. I am still only hearing sound through 3.5mm headphones when I plug them in.
There appear to be 2 USB audio devices detected - suspect one will be connected to the webcam. The High Definitioin Audio will pertain to the HDMI port. Can you advise what the USB audio is that you attached - is this an external USB Audio card? Is that what you are attempting to use? It would help if you could remove the webcam and any other USB periperals that don't have any audio and post back the results again.
Despite the fact that the audio device is listed in the configuration parameters, when I select it I cannot do an audio test and the selection is not kept. the interface for doing a test does not display speakers left test right test ?
