Once you have downloaded your new driver, you'll need to install it. In Windows, use a built-in utility called Device Manager, which allows you to see all of the devices recognized by your system, and the drivers associated with them.

*Just in case anyone comes looking for how to do this, you need to extract driver files from _raid_os2007252a.exe, which does not seem to be listed among the available files for the m400. This executable contains the SATA interface drivers that will need to be loaded by the installer before it can see your hard disk drive. It needs to be unpacked and the files copied to a USB key which they can then be loaded from in the install process. The utilities etc. for installation post windows install are all available from the Toshiba USA support website.

What I found was that there are two utilities that are on the "applications and drivers" CDROM that came with the PC that make these features work. The one is called: "Display Rotation utility" and the other is: "Button utility" These names may not be the exact names but they are very close. Anyway, the Display rotation utility allows the display orientation to change when you rotate and close the screen to use it as a tablet. Once loaded, there is a setup option for it under the start menu at: Toshiba/utility/Display RotationIt allows you to change the default display orientation when the screen is rotated.

I'm trying to install XP Pro SP2 on a laptop but it says the drive is not detected (it's SATA). How can I install the SATA drivers without a floppy disk? Ideally I would like to use a USB drive. The laptop I'm using is a Toshiba Portege M400-S4031.

You can't. You either switch your system into IDE compatible mode (if possible) in the BIOS, upgrade to Vista/7, get a floppy drive & disc (USB drives often work), or slipstream the drivers onto your XP CD with another PC.

With a little messing around with registry and drivers you even should be able to install the S-ATA drivers lateron and switch back in BIOS, there are some manuals in the internet, but I can't help you with more details, sorry.

Here's what I have done in cases where a typical XP install didnt see the drive. When first entering setup, there's an option shown along the bottom of the blue screen to load SCSI/RAID drivers. It is . When that option is used, I've been able to load XP onto SATA drives with no problems. After pressing F6, setup will load some more files, then ask if there are any additional drivers from other disks. When that question comes up, just press . Windows setup should continue normally. I've used this method with both desk-tops and lap-tops. In fact, I'm using that method right now on a Dell Inspiron 1521. The XP version I'm working with is XP Pro original, so I'm not sure if the method will be the same with your version. But, its at least something to try.

Windows 7 x64 (64 Bit) drivers support for Toshiba Qosmio X500 (PQX34E) Notebook . With NVIDIA's new high-end GTX 460M discrete graphics and slapped a handsome $1,300 MSRP on the resulting beast. And a beast it shall be, with an 18.4-inch screen, Core i5 or i7 CPU choices, SSD storage options, up to 8GB of RAM, a backlit keyboard, and simulated 5.1 audio pumping out of Harman Kardon speakers.
