python custom options

Does anyone know the current state of custom options with python? Are
they functional?

Sorry, they are not implemented, but feel free to submit a patch.

Is this still a gap in the current and/or next version? I'm thinking of giving it a try, but don't know if I should wait for the next version or start with the current one.
