Dear colleagues, friends and supporters,
This year was a good year for all of us. As you know, CATCA launched in 2007 an extensive and intensive campaign lobbying personally in Europe to get a ban on the trade of seal products at the European Union. In May this year, FINALLY the EU voted in favor of a ban on the import of seal products that will be implemented in 2010!.
Also, as a consecuence of all the EU pressure on Canada regarding this ban, "only" about 70,000 harp baby seals were killed this spring in Canada (The DFO had set a quota of 280,000 harp seals for this year).
In other news, CATCA got Poland to join this year the International Whaling Commission on the side of the whales and the newly appointed Polish commissioner, was very active for the whales during the IWC Plenary. These achievements could not have been possible without your active support and participation in these campaigns.
