Recently, research has demonstrated that caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) can help fight prostate cancer. See: http://cancerpreventionresearch.aacrjournals.org/content/5/5/788.long

What is interesting is that CAPE even enhances the effectiveness of chemotherapy, with a noticeable increase in estrogen receptor-beta. See: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23847086

What nobody has done yet, but what seems logical to me, is to block estradiol production using an aromatase inhibitor, then add both CAPE and estriol (which binds preferentially to estrogen receptor-beta). For men on androgen deprivation therapy an aromatase inhibitor may not be necessary.

Ed,

I have been using propolis for a number of years, on the basis that it contains CAPE.  Unfortunately, the content can be quite low.  Bio30TM seems to be the way to go.  I have been using it since December:

Prostate cancer is an exceptionally heterogenous disease. What is good for one man may not be so kind on the next. Be sure to research and test any new supplement or treatment before adopting it - and in any case run it past a medically qualified person for a second opinion.

Patrick,

What dose of Bio30 are you using? Also, CAPE seems to upregulate ER-beta, so are you taking any ER-beta agonists as well, such as DIM?

Ed,

I am only using one cap / day.  The label warns against taking more than 4.  Perhaps I will switch to 4 / day.

As for ERbeta agonists, I use LEF's Ultra Soy, for the high dose of genistein.   but I do use BR-DIM too.

Best, -Patrick
