I can access my Netflix account via my computer and can stream to my Xbox and other laptops. I've been on the phone three different times with Netflix tech support and they're telling me it's currently a "known issue" with iPads - but there's no ETA and and I'm not seeing any other reports of this on other forums.
My iphone will not work on Netflix through WIFI but will work on Cellular Data and iCloud only works through Cellular Data... I am thinking it a particular problem with the Internet network iam using (in this case it is DEKAL WIRELESS in Jamaica).
Oops! update, i purposely type in wrong password to see if it would give me another connection error message, but it gave me wrong password message. When I eventually typed in correct password, it finally let me in with no connect error message. **** technology! Either its a temporary issue, or a gremlin in the works.
I think I've got this one. I noticed the same problem on my iPad 3. It was also happening on my android phone which is the brand new S4 (sorry apple). Anyway - My MacBook Pro streems fine so I shut the wifi off on my phone and used the 4G network and Netflix came through fine on my phone. THAT'S IT! It was a network connectivity issue, the app works fine and the computer works fine the only thing left is how they communicate. The odd thing was that I could get any other website on my ipad or my phone using wifi but not neflix. What I ended up doing was going to the wifi settings on my ipad, clicked the little arrow that points to the right (next to the network I was connected to) a window popped up with a button that read, "renew lease" (which renews your devices connection to the router) and presto chango everything was cool... hopefully it works for my phone too becasue I pay for data on the 4g network ?
Just fixed the issue on my mom's iPad that only supports the 5.1.1 version. What you need to do is go to SETTINGS>GENERAL>RESET>RESET NETWORK SETTINGS. It will restart your iPad/iPhone/iPod and you need to log on to your wi-fi again and voila ! You can sign back into your netflix account (input the username And password). This will not change anything else on your device !!!
I know that this is 2015 now so hopefully you have resolved your problem! But I came across your question because the Netflix app was not working on my daughter's brand new iPad Mini 2. All I did was uncheck "VPN" and turn off Bluetooth. Everything worked fine! Hope this helps someone!
After trying everything else, this splatoon worked a treat for me. I think something must have happened to the connection when I had unplugged my router while moving furniture And it somehow upset the wifi connection with Netflix on the iPad (all other apps and connection worked fine) simple network reset was all that was needed.
I hate to post on such an old thread but I had the same behavior today after changing my Netflix password. I use a password manager which generates 16 character passwords for me using letters, numbers, and special characters. This generated password happened to have a double quote " in it.
The changed password worked on 2 Xboxes, 2 PC's, a Note 4, and Kindle Fire HDX. However, both iPad Air 2's in my house stopped working immediately. I tried everything I could find including an IP release/renew, resetting to factory network settings, rebooting the router/modem, reinstalling the app, rebooting the tablets, etc.
All along my wife is saying "maybe it doesn't like those special characters" to which I replied something along the lines of "that's stupid I'm a software developer and there's no way it's that simple, it would be bulls**t if that's what it was..."
Posting on behalf of my father.
His netflix is not working in his house when connected to WIFI on any device. Disconnected from the wifi and use 4G and it works fine.
Virgin box is connected wirelessly and network test show it connected and working.
I downloaded the netflix app on my mobile and connected to his wifi - does not work. I try youtube while connected to the wifi and it works, google works etc etc. Disconnect from the wifi and netflix work it.
Seems like there is something on the wifi blocking netflix?
Hey @JamesB93,
Welcome to the Community Forums and thanks for the post.
Sorry to hear you father is having this issue with his Netflix, can you confirm for me is there any error codes or messages when you are trying to access Netflix at all?
Joe
I will need to have another look. They basically refer to netflix not being connected to the internet but clicking the button that says network test on the same screen shows that wifi is connected.
I like to watch a tv program/movie now and then on a cruise when I need a break from all the festivities or just to unwind before bedtime. I have not been impressed with the TV programs/movies available but do enjoy many of the helpful features Carnival provides via TV.
If you have a Netflix account and an iPad/iPhone or computer with Win 10 you can download (at home) using your wifi some programs that will be available when you cruise (some must be viewed within 48 hours or up to a month). I am also told there is no limit (except for your memory limits) but I think 2 or 3 will suffice for me. You do have to install an app first. You will not be using the internet but you must be signed in to your account. As long as you haven't logged off your account you are good to go. I asked that question.
Unplug you will enjoy it more. But that is a great suggestion for those who are addicted. My enjoyment is sitting on my balcony rain or shine watching the ocean 24/7. Beats Netflix and day of the week.
That's a good idea - pre-download videos to watch on the cruise. I think if you tried to live stream without the prior download it may be a problem. Bandwidth on a cruise ship is limited and expensive. They may even block it, not sure.
I did just that in June of 2017. I was in need of entertainment on a plane from Europe, worked like a charm. Downloaded in Paris and laughed the enter way home watching Kimmy Smitt! I understand that Netflix just started allowing downloads in late May, great timing on my part. I still need to finish ONB, so my pending cruise will be a binge fest, sometime during the 7 days.
I have Amazon Prime and do this for when I am in places where I cannot get wi-fi... like car trips. Just finished the series Suits this way, planning on picking up another series soon. I think there is a limit of number of programs .. 15 or so at a time.
YES! I'm the OP and I wondered how many posts were going to tell me to uplug in spite of me explaining very thoroughly how much I as going to enjoy my cruise and simply asking if anyone else had tried Netflix on the cruise. That's one of the reasons I didn't even mention I was going to get the Value wifi pkg too but not for streaming! Thanks for responding! On the other hand once I responded to a Cheers thread with "Ask your doctor if the Cheers pkg is right for you" and boy did I get it. What goes around comes around I guess:halo:
Even the most expensive internet plan doesn't allow for streaming (and it was spotty anyway for skype calls depending on where we were), so the only thing is to pre download what you want and then watch it without internet needed.
I much rather sit back and watch a movie I have not been able to see since i been so busy working and going to school and raising a family than sitting on a balcony - I can't stand sitting on a balcony
For Amazon - If you have the Amazon Prime Video app you are able to download either movies you own or some prime shows will let you download - It only downloads it to the prime video app which is where you would watch it at - its not like you can download it to your computer and burn it to a DVD
Yes, I do this all the time either for plane trips or cruises and it works great. Not all movies are available though, usually the older ones are available for download but it's still a good selection. Lots of TV shows as well. Good luck.
Royal Caribbean already offers a stream plan that works with Netflix and no need for an 800 mile cable. They actually advertise that you can watch Netflix right on the Voom page. So no need to wait and see who is first, it already exists on the entire Royal fleet.
Short answer is yes. If there is any logging on their WiFi router they might not be able to see exact apps, but they'll be able to see the server domain/hostnames that you're connecting to.
Secure WiFi only encrypts traffic up to the Access Point. It's decrypted, and the traffic can be monitored. If it's an enterprise router it's more than capable of logging specific types of traffic. If your work has a firewall in their network then it's even more likely that your employer has the capability to monitor traffic. These do have to be configured, and your employer has to care, but it's very possible.
If you're using SSL/TLS it's possible to see the hostname of the server that you're connecting to in two ways. First is the server's certificate. The common name generally needs to match the domain name that you're browsing to.
Can they link this back to you? This really depends on a lot of factors. If they're really adamant they'll be able to track down the MAC address of your device, IMEI, and other mobile phone identifiers. This is a lot of work, and in the end still might not link you to the traffic.
