I am working 3-11 Sunday (they are desperate for nurses)so will be unable to
make tomorrow's meeting. I hope you have a better turnout.

I thought I posted this to the google group, but perhaps it didn't go
through or was erased.....
Here it is again.........

I just wanted to share recent comments I have received from EPPNA/PPNA
members regarding the idea of a community garden at Prospect Park.

-"I hope it doesn't look trashy like Frog Island Community Garden"

-"It will just get vandalized. People will throw tomatoes around, or
steal the vegetables."

-"What about water? Do you really think people will haul their own
water there if there is no rain or, if there are rain barrels and they
are empty?"

-"We all have our own back yards and our own gardens, so we are not
interested. Where do you think you will get interested gardeners from?"

-"Don't think I am going to pick up after someone else's messy
garden."

(I have heard not one positive comment.)

So this is the kind of feedback I am getting. I think alot is riding
on the/your presentation at the 3/22 meeting. EPPNA will have one
representative there (Morgan Cox). No one else can make it at this
point.

Respectfully submitted,
Mackenzi Rettie

Wow. Those comments are not of a particular helpful manner. I cannot attend the meeting but thought I would share these comments:

"Community food production; great idea!"

"I really like the idea of sharing work, energy and harvests with my neighbors."

"We should try to include intergenerational dialog too!"

"Gardens are a great place to think, share and center oneself!"

"We should try to present the 'face' of the garden in a professional way, with a rustic style."

"Great work on keeping this project organized, a delicate and needed process!"

"I would like to see gardens and local education flourish."

Let us keep on the positive side, the outreach side and the inclusive side of things here. We might think about giving talks at local churches and on local cable access to educate about these gardens, a lot of people have not read Micheal Pollan or know about perma-culture, right?

Right on.

I thought it would be helpful to know some of the responses the group might hear at the upcoming Prospect Park meeting.

I agree with both of you. Like Jesse says, we need to stay positive and have much reason to do so. But, like Mackenzi says, its good to be prepared in advance for negative responses. Both perspectives are helpful. Thanks you guys!!
