Paint recommendations
From neighbor Stephanie: My husband and I would like to have the outside of our house painted ( 811 west 3rd st) and it would be nice to have referrals from neighbors who had a good experience on that front. We saw a number of beautiful houses in our dear neighborhood with successful “ facelifts” lately, and if someone has a name to recommend, we would be grateful. Music Fundraiser for Fairview Elementary Sunday, August 29 at 2pm

The hills are alive with the sounds of Madness, Sadness and Bad Behavior – our eleventh annual concert of Broadway and opera!  That’s right – Richard Lewis and friends are back to bring you yet another round of questionable personal choices and general anguish, all set to great tunes by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Verdi, and more.  And once again, we’re coming to you on YouTube!

Join us on Sunday, August 29 at 2 PM Eastern for a 1-hour YouTube Premiere Broadcast with performances of musical favorites that will set your toes to tapping and your mind to asking, “What were they THINKING?!?”  Our concert broadcast takes a look at love, jealousy, laughter, disguises, poison rings, and more.  We’ll portray people who indulge in bad behavior whether in a Parisian nightclub, a Salzburg nunnery, or a Spanish fortress.  We will offer our first-ever concert performances from The Sound of Music and Strauss’ operetta Die Fledermaus, and offer up new performances of favorite works by Franz Lehar and Giuseppe Verdi.  Concert regulars soprano Anna Singer, tenor Robert Chafin, maestro Michael Borowitz, and baritone Richard Lewis all dive into crazy-for-love antics with musical gusto.  And, unlike last year’s isolation event, this time we sing together in person!

In this YouTube broadcast, we also seek to benefit the literacy and Arts Integration programs for Bloomington’s Fairview Elementary School.  Over the past several years, you – our audience – have raised over $16,000 for these vital programs.  During last year’s broadcast alone, you donated a chart-topping $5,000!  We cannot thank you enough for your support, and hope that you will once again choose to assist these student programs at a time when our support is even more critical.  Approximately 90 percent of Fairview families face significant economic challenges; this model school provides students with educational and artistic lifelines that help them to excel in ways they may never have dreamed possible.

We will provide more information about the school programs during our event as well as options for you to give securely online or by check.  Thank you!

We look forward to serving you a 1-hour musical feast on Sunday, August 29 at 2 PM Eastern.  Please join us at the Richard Lewis Opera and Broadway Channel on YouTube.com for Madness, Sadness and Bad Behavior.  See you then!

Bloomington Symphony Orchestra Concert: Together Again
August 29 @ 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Free
The BSO is back together again! Join us as we launch our 52nd season at Switchyard Park on Sunday, August 29 at 7pm. The orchestra will play some favorite selections from concerts in the past and our special guest star, Mayor John Hamilton, will take a turn at the conductor’s baton. Let’s celebrate the return to in-person concerts and the resilience shown by the orchestra – and the community – as we come together again to make music!

Thanks to everyone who replied!

We're settling on September 25th for the neighborhood yard sale. Thanks for your patience as we worked through various conflicts. Hopefully we'll find a groove where we can have the sale on the same predictable weekend each year.

Other things happening this fall to put on your calendar:

- Mon September 12th 6:30pm • PHNA Meeting either online or at Southern Knoll Community Room (will be announced a week in advance)
- Sat. September 18th at 10am • Headstone restoration workshop at Rose Hill Cemetery
- Tues. October 12th 4pm-8pm • Food truck event across from Building Trades Park. This will take the place of our annual picnic.
- Sat. October 16th at 10am • Headstone restoration workshop at Rose Hill Cemetery
- Sometime in October - another porch decoration contest! Come to the September 12th PHNA meeting to help plan.
