Hello List,

Can someone please post details on how to install on windows?

I realize this install is trickier than the linux install due to windows
lacking built-in SSL support.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
Aaron

Hello Aaron,

Sure.

1. Simply download the installer or the zip file for the latest release
from http://prosody.im/download/start#windows
2. Run installer or unpack zip file
3. Edit config (there's a script included for that)
4. Start
5. Use the console (script for that too) to add users (type "help user")

Our releases ship with OpenSSL and LuaSec included. And Windows does
have built-in SSL/TLS support (but we don't use that).

Generating certificates is the only thing that's really tricky. I don't
know how to do that (on Windows), but I bet there are shiny GUI tools
for it somewhere. If you manage to get the OpenSSL CLI tools installed
then the instructions for those at <http://prosody.im/doc/certificates>
should do the trick. Anyone who happens to know about such tools are
welcome to post them here or to our chat room so we can add them to our
wiki.

Hi Kim,

The Win32 OpenSSL Installation Project might be what you're looking for.

http://slproweb.com/products/Win32OpenSSL.html

I've used their binaries to test for SSLv2 connections on a server (using cipherscan) before finding package rebuild instructions for Ubuntu. Those binaries worked fine for my purposes, so I assume they'd also work fine for generating certs. I've not tested that however.
