The behavior of the examiner and his/her relationship with the examinee can affect test scores Approving remarks from the examiner vs. disapproving remarks can affect test scores Examinees perform better under approving remarks. Also children tend to perform better on tests when they are familiar with the examiner Interviewer effects: respondents may give the response that they perceive to be expected by the interviewer. This is known as Response acquiescence and can cause systematic bias. Actually more common with experienced rather than inexperienced interviewers In most testing situations, examiners should be aware that their rapport with test takers can influence the results. Should keep in mind that rapport might be influenced by subtle processes such as the level of performance expected by the examiner

The amount of linguistic demand can put non-English speakers at a disadvantage Translation may not be comparable to the English version The validity and reliability of tests for those who do not speak English is suspect Interpreters should be used only with great caution because test interpreters can introduce bias into the testing situation

PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING: PRINCIPLES, APPLICATIONS, AND ISSUES, Ninth Edition explains the fundamentals of psychological testing, their important applications, and the controversies that emerge from those applications in clinical, education, industrial, and legal settings. Kaplan and Saccuzzo's engaging and thorough text demonstrates how psychological tests are constructed and used, both in a professional setting and in everyday lives. Part I focuses on the core concepts that affect the evaluation of all tests. Part II discusses the major types of psychological tests, while Part III looks at present-day issues affecting testing such as stereotype threat, bias, laws, and ethics. A multitude of test profiles and sample items illustrate how psychological testing is used and reported. Real-life case studies demonstrate the uses and misuses of psychological testing, while "Technical Example" boxes help you understand complex statistical concepts.

The California Verbal Learning Test - second edition (CVLT-II) is one of the most widely used neuropsychological tests in North America. The present study evaluated the 1-month test-retest reliability and practice effects associated with the standard and alternate forms of the CVLT-II in a sample of 195 healthy adults. Eighty participants underwent repeat assessment using the standard form of the CVLT-II on both occasions, whereas the remaining 115 individuals received the standard form at baseline and the alternate form at follow-up. Consistent with prior research, results revealed generally large test-retest correlation coefficients for the primary CVLT-II measures in both the standard/standard (range=0.80-0.84) and standard/alternate (range=0.61-0.73) cohorts. Despite exhibiting slightly lower test-retest reliability coefficients, participants in the alternate form group displayed notably smaller practice effects (Cohen's d range=-0.01 to 0.18) on the primary indices relative to individuals who received the standard form on both occasions (Cohen's d range=0.27-0.61). Reliable change indices were also generated and applied to primary CVLT-II variables to determine the base rates of significant improvements (range=2-10%), declines (range=0-7%), and stability (range=85-97%) in performance over time. Overall, findings from this study support the test-retest reliability of the standard and alternate forms of the CVLT-II in healthy adults and may enhance the usefulness of this test in longitudinal neuropsychological evaluations.

Psychological testing: all possible uses, applications, and underlying concepts of psychological and educational tests. The main use of these tests though, is to evaluate individual differences or variations among individuals.

-> although criterion related validity evidence is common is psychological andeducational research, it simply does not apply in some instances. By definition, thecriterion must be the most accurate measure of the phenomenon if it is to serve asthe gold standard.

Computer assisted test administration: interactive testing involves the presentationof test items on a computer terminal or personal computer and the automaticrecording of test responses. The computer can also be programmed to instruct thetest taker and to provide instruction when parts of the testing procedure are notclear.
