Overcoming Regret, With God
What happens to relationships when one party "regrets hurting the one they love, promising to never forget it for the rest of
their life", and because of their overwhelming guilt and/or shame, they stop the relationship either selfishly (cannot handle
remembering the hurt), or nobly - not wanting to hurt further the one they love? The relationship stalls.
Yet, when God has you designed for another person (whatever the relationship: friendship, romance, marriage, ministry, and He
continually brings you together (even through unhealthy or dysfunctional others), He knows that the two of you will work
well
together, and that you need (in a good way) each other. Perhaps life experiences will complement each others and God's
purposes for ministry.
Trust God.
When you love someone though carrying regret for hurting them, and God has continually crossed your paths over time (months, years),
and the chemistry that defines a Godly relationship (no matter what type) continues, it is true that they love you too, and they know that God
wants the relationship to be. Whatever hurt has happened is in the past, and it's time to rebuild, restore.
God doesn't bring people together, sometimes from early ages, just for fun. He knows that they have gifts of encouragement to
share
and a purpose together that serves God and others.
If you carry regret for hurting the one you love, tell the one you love. Isn't it time that God's plan is fulfilled in both of your lives?
Suggestion: spend time truly seeking God alone, praying Matthew 6:9-13, and His will to be done. Let Him clarify for you
what steps to take. If He has truly ordained a relationship, He will continually bring the parties together.
And, despite what bumps in the road might occur, walk over them with God, and each other.
