If there is anything that can be done to change things, let us become a community of hope, faith, and strength, becoming - all of us - a tsunami of change that washes away the violence. ~gretchen

This post, below, is from -- Frank Somerville KTVU 's Facebook page. He's quite the unusual newsman, going out into the community and getting to know people. This story in particular has moved many people.

You are looking at the face of complete heartbreak. The woman on the left is Dinyal New. Her 13 year old son Lee Weathersby III was murdered on New Year’s Eve (that’s his picture on the right). Four days after Lee’s funeral her only other child, 19 year old Lamar Broussard, was murdered (that’s his picture on the left).

Today Dinyal and her friends held a barbeque to raise money for funeral expenses. It was at 104th and International Blvd in Oakland just a few blocks from where both of her kids were killed. I felt like I couldn’t hug her enough. She told me some gut wrenching information today that I didn’t know. She said her 13 year old was shot more than 25 times. She also told me that he had “so many holes it was hard to keep the embalming fluid in him for his funeral.” I debated whether to use that last quote. But I decided to go with it because to me it shows just how crazy and sick all this violence is. Who shoots a 13 year old kid more than 25 times as he's walking home?

As for her older son Lamar, she told me he had just left the house with a friend. She had asked Lamar to go pay her phone bill. She says, “I never thought that would be the last time I’d see my baby.” At least 19 shots were fired into the car. Both Lamar and his friend Derryck Harris were killed.

I asked Dinyal how she’s holding up. She said, “Not good.” But she says, “I’ve got to get up in the morning because I’ve got to give my baby his burial.” What scares her, she says, is what happens once the funeral for Lamar is over. “I don’t know what I’m going to do. How I’m going to deal with everything that’s happened.” The family has set up a gofundme site. You may have read that donations were pouring in. They were. In fact at one point it appeared they had collected $31,000. But Dinyal says two $15,000 donations turned out to be fake.

Honestly what else can possibly happen to this woman? If you’d like to help here is the link. http://www.gofundme.com/6eybok. If you can’t help that's okay. I'm sure they would appreciate reading any of your comments. I will also assume if you hit ”like” it means that you’re thinking about Dinyal the same way I am. The fact is she’s gone through way more than any mother should EVER have to face. And the only words that come to mind are: Stop the Violence!
