The issues start here: To get a license, you need "proving material" that you are a student, of which I did not have and had to pay for. I had already registered my account then, the 14 day count for my proof started, I did not have any papers, my solution would be my student card. "Well yes, but actually, no!" My citizen card was outdated, without it, can't get my student card, when is it ready? March of 2021.
The very first month, since I was unable to get proof of my identity, I decided to use a cracked version. But it kept asking me to switch to a legit version (Fair enough), one day I had enough of it and got rid of it completely, I literally searched every "autodesk/maya" folder and key both in C:/ and REGEDIT and deleted it. Also Used the troubleshooter to remove stubborn software (Granted the Autodesk Maya 2019 still appears in programs and applications).
To add to it, I did send a ticket to autodesk, in the Friday before the last one, so I assumed I would get an answer by now, but I got nothing yet. I went to reddit, a dude tried to help me, but was unable.
So in the end, I'm not really coming to the forums expecting an answer, that ought to come from Autodesk itself, rather I want to get my issue out there and heard, not for attention, I just really need a student serial number.
Hey guys I have seen a few mixed results on the topic in a few other threads but I just wanted to double check with some autodesk mods. I just recently graduated and while I was in school I was helping a friend with his game. He asked me to make a few assets for his game and he would like to have the option to sell the game going forward but we seem to hit a roadblock. All of the assets I made were made using my student copy of maya (again I was in school). I guess my question is can I take those assets I created purchase a copy of Maya LT import the FBX save it under commercial and then give those assets to him to be used in his game and giving him the option to sell it if he wants to? He is worried about legal action and asked that I get written proof this can be done. I am posting because I have seen mixed answers on this topic and was hoping someone from autodesk could help me with this. I spent months working on some of his assets and to be honest I would hate to remake EVERYTHING!!!
Sorry if my first post was a bit vague. To clarify, using a student license for commercial purposes is prohibited however if you have graduated from school for example or for whatever reason are no longer using your student license then to work on a commercial project you do need to purchase a license of either Maya LT or regular Maya.
We do prevent abuse though like @mspeer's hypothetical about studios using student licenses. There's a thorough process done before granting a student license hence why there aren't studios abusing these types of licenses.

Hey everyone I'm new to the community and a student currently proceeding a degree in animation. Recently I was working on a project for class but had to take it home to finish cause I have the 3 year student version. To get to the point, my question is can I bring home the files or my projects rather from college and work on it at home to save it and use it at college again?
This is just my own opinion (and experience) but I think that as long as your school has an educational license and the version you use at home is an educational/student license, there shouldn't be any problem. When I had gone back to college myself (which is where I first developed an interest in Maya), they used the same version I used here at home...or more proper, I downloaded the same student version here at home that they used at my school.
I could be wrong here...I'm no lawyer or anything, but...I think the main issue regarding student/educational versions, regardless of "where" you specifically use them, is that you simply don't use them for ANY kind of commercial/for profit use. As long as you're using student versions for student work, I don't think it really maters if you use it at a kiosk at your college or on your own laptop sitting on the crapper (LOL). If you have concerns, I would absolutely read thru those Terms of Use, as recommended previously, but if it's simply a matter of taking your school work/projects home to work on them - i.e. "homework", then I wouldn't think there should be a problem.
Thanks for the reply both of you, I was able to call a representative at autodesk to confirm it's okay and they said it was okay. It wouldn't make sense if I could take my class work home but not use it. Unless it was the commercial version which I know its not, student, education, or anything that falls into learning seems connected anyways. I also asked my professor and he also said it was fine and the only thing is the student dialog warning will only appear when the file is opened. Anyways thanks all for the help.
I'm not a studen i work full time as a graphic dsigner for an italian company and they don't use autodesk software, but i like 3D and CG and in my free time i use to make some stuff in 3D by using Blender. Now i woud like to learn Maya, and see if i can improve the quality and knowledge about 3D modeling and CG. So here's my question, is there some solution or options for peoples that aren't students but woud like to learn Maya, i asked just because i'm not sure i can learn enoght with 30 day trial version.
This certificate will offer students the ability to prepare for the Autodesk Maya Certified User Exam. These two courses taken together will prepare the student with the training and practice on the current software version of Autodesk Maya.
Most Autodesk products, such as AutoCAD and Maya, are now free for students to install on their laptops provided they are using the software in a manner related to learning, training, research or development. Autodesk is now requiring our students, even eStout students with Stout-issued laptops provided to them, to create a free Autodesk account and install the software titles they wish to use.
IMPORTANT: Please be aware that Autodesk now requires you to verify you are a student by sending a photo of your student ID. The verification process may take up to 48 hours, so please be allow yourself time to do so before you need to use the software.
Faculty who wish to install Autodesk for learning, teaching, training, research or development on their personally-owned computer can follow the directions above for students, specifying Educator as their educational role when signing up for an Autodesk account.
Only instructors and students of UW-Stout courses can install Autodesk applications using the campus license. Others (facilities, consultants, etc.) should consult with the software team to obtain the correct licensing.
