The gta*.dat file lists which files define the game map. It can be found in the game's data directory, and is known as gta3.dat in GTA III, gta_vc.dat in Vice City, and simply gta.dat in San Andreas. The same file format is also used for the default.dat file in the same directory.
I can't find the gta.dat in my data directory. I've tried to re-install the game and everything, but it just isn't there. And seeing how you need too download most modifacations, I'd like to know why I don't have it, simply.
Pretty much what the title says. I wanna install a few mods, all of which has its own gta.dat file. I tried installing each on their own modloader folder, but I think it caused my game to crash. Is there any other way to install them?
you have to open those gta.dat files all with notepad and determine which lines are added(check which lines are before and after the new line in the modded gta.dat), then copy them into same place in original file in game folder, all the mods need are the line entries in gta.dat!
"The only things you have to edit to avoid crashes are peds.ide. But it would be better if you would create a file named "newped.ide" and add it to the gta.dat file. Then add the models and texture to the componentpeds.img file. Pedpersonality is needed if you want the ped to be female. Pedvariations will vary the clothing of the character, lets say you added a unique head model for a ped but you don't want to see it on the streets, only via trainers, you just have to set this file up (which I personally didn't). Pedgrp.dat will be needed if you want the ped to spawn anywhere where you place him/her".
