As we open envelopes and review petition submissions, we are finding a number of issues that are causing otherwise valid signatures to be rejected.

We have provided clear instructions on our website, but it appears that some circulators and signers are not reading them carefully. Please take a few minutes to review the instructions before mailing your petitions.

If you have submitted invalid petition packets, please print the June petition from our website https://exemptpropertytax.com and resubmit. Make sure to read the instructions before mailing.

Common reasons petitions are being deemed INVALID:

• Only the signature sheet was mailed. INVALID
All required pages must be included.

• A circulator collected multiple signatures but only submitted the signature sheet. INVALID
You have to send every page from your petition packet with the set of 2 signatures.

• The Declaration of Circulator was not completed. INVALID
• Information was typed instead of handwritten. INVALID
• The petition was not signed by the signer or circulator. INVALID

Additional tips:

• Please do not tightly fold or stuff petitions into small envelopes. We have received petitions that were torn while being removed.
• Do not use staples. Surprisingly, some submissions have been stapled three or four times, making processing difficult and increasing the risk of damage.
• Before mailing, do a final review to ensure every required field is completed and all pages are included.

Every valid signature matters. Taking a few extra minutes to review your petition before mailing it can help ensure your hard work counts.

Thank you for your support and attention to detail.

I cannot emphasize enough how critical it is to read the instructions on our website before collecting or submitting petitions.

Currently, roughly 25% of the petition packets we receive are invalid. That is a huge number—and one that is entirely avoidable.

We can do much better simply by taking a few extra minutes to read the instructions and carefully review the petition before mailing it.

Every invalid packet means lost signatures, lost time, and additional work for our volunteer team.

As the saying goes, the devil is in the details. A missing signature, an incomplete circulator declaration, omitted pages, or failure to follow the instructions can result in an otherwise valid petition being rejected.

Please take the time to read the website instructions carefully and double-check your packet before mailing it. Every signature counts, and your attention to detail will help ensure that every valid signature is counted.

Sincerely,
