Ibought a Wifi USB Stick with rt3070 chip (Here the Amazon Link: WLAN USB Stick Verstrker Dongle 150Mbps 100mW ) and wanted to get the Stick working with the WDR4300 (and also with TP-Link mr3020) and Attitude Adjustment Final.
can you explain in detalis how can i install firmware for this TP-Link mr3020 router and to works with Wifi USB Stick with rt3070 chip. I cant understand how to install it and when have i to write these commands.
[1] unrelated as in, rt3070 != "NETGEAR WNDA3100 v2". rt3070 is supported by the mainline kernel for ages, this topic is about getting something working which should work, maybe with a little help. "NETGEAR WNDA3100 v2" on the other hand is completely different hardware, using a Broadcom, instead of RaLink/ Mediatek, chipset, a chipset which doesn't have any kind of mainline linux support, and therefore isn't supportable (I don't even think that a closed source mips driver exists).
Does anyone know for definite whether the Ralink RT3070L chipset supports packet injection, for use with aircrack-ng? It's the chipset present in the ALFA AWUS036NH (The one with the green-tinge). Correction - That Alfa uses the RT3070, but I'm looking at the RT3070L chipset.
but In general what you can do is enable monitor mode In a separate terminal in kali linux and do the rest in other only this is the requirement to do wifi hacking with this chipset and to inform you that its driver in windows 10 are buggy and will not connect to wifi
Hi, I recently saw an ad about this Awus with RTL3070 L chipset, I'm thinking about buying it because it's cheap and I need to inject packages in Linux monitor mode, my question is if it injects packages in Linux effectively and if it's difficult to install the drive thanks
I wanted to give a feedback report for anyone in my situation wanting to improve their wireless reception and searching for a USB adapter they can run on Tiger. I was pretty confused when researching it, so I thought it'd be worth giving my report.
I saw on Ralink's website ( _support/support.php?sn=502) that only 10.5 and up are listed for the 3070 driver, though when you click on that link the next page says 10.3 and up. But I downloaded this driver and it had folders for 10.5-7 only.
But I also emailed Edimax Taiwan and they sent me an older unsupported driver (RTUSBD2870-3[1].0.0.0UI-3.0.0.0_2010_05_12) which is working fine for me so far. (I also have the file RTUSBD2870_7711.zip which I downloaded actually from the Edimax UK site ironically which when unzipped has the same driver.)
My installation procedure was to install the driver, restart, plug in USB device - which opens Ralink Wireless Utility automatically, open Network System Preferences, which told me it had found a new port 'Ethernet Adaptor (en4)', I followed the pop-up instructions (which I think was click show 'Ethernet Adaptor (en4)' and the just click "Apply now" to confirm I was using DHCP which I was). I also dragged it to the top as mentioned in other posts, though I think it worked without that. I also repaired permissions, but nothing showed up needing repair.
Then I was able to connect to a wifi hotspot in Ralink Wireless Utility. I couldn't get Macstumbler working with the Edimax so I can't give direct comparison between this device and the Airport. But the Airport wireless was offering me only one connection - the cafe I was sitting in, whereas the Ralink offered me 10 so that was a pretty good start.
Apologies for a bump. I've got a similar usb (was cheap, now I see why!) and, even though I have been a linux hobbyist for a few years now I still cannot work out what to do to get the thing working.
lsusb shows the device
what do now?
I have three cheapo USB WiFi dongles like this. But they all register as RT5370. From what I understand, the RT3070 is closely related to the RT5370, but I am not sure what driver you are supposed to use on it specifically.
So here's the rub. Would you or anyone else be able to write instructions for someone of my level of understanding (low but willing) in order to get this damn thing working? I'd rather not have to use ubuntu....
Now your posts to the threads were a bit confusing, particularly since those usb thingies are all different.
Anyway, now that PCI-ID 0b05:179d of your dongle is listed for the mainline kernel rt2800usb:
Then modify it, so it uses your downloaded driver and its md5-sum, which you placed in the same directory.
Next, give it a try with "makepkg" again. All the other steps in the bbs-thread for the N750 might not be necessary, if the proprietary driver has your device's PCI ID already. Maybe the other patches in the PKGBUILD create problems though - but give it a go first. If you are lucky and it compiles, creating a package, make sure the "rt2800usb" is not loaded anymore before you try it.
Well, this is the strangest thing, or not as the case may be... After your reply, Strike0, I went ahead and started searching for how to modprobe correctly and ended up just doing the Beginner's Wireless Setup as per the wiki again. And this time it worked, and there was much rejoicing. I've even got NetworkManager working, to an extent.
However, another problem has arisen, namely that now the wireless usb is working and connecting, the ethernet isn't. I know, this shouldn't be a big problem but I prefer to use the ethernet and was really just looking to get the usb working for an old Arch laptop...
But with the info you give, I don't know about your new problem. What I do know though is that it will be unrelated to your wireless.
You should follow the Beginner's guide for wired setup and networkmanager for that. If that leads you to the network troubleshooting page and you cannot solve it yourself given the hints and tricks in that, you will at least gather the info needed. With that you should start a new thread explaining the problem and what you tried to solve it .. this one is the wrong place for it.
Woah, 10-year bump, yippie yay.
Ralink was acquired by mediatek, probably the driver is gone but chances for regular kernel support are not bad. Best you do a search for the specific device ID, similar to: -
hardware.org/index.php?id=usb:148f-3070
(see the "Find parts" top menu), check the results there and open a new thread, if you can't get it to run.

Hello.
I have a problem with my wifi adaptor.
The problem is this : when I boot my pc ( from shutdown mode) all thing ok and my wifi adaptor finds the modems and It connect automatically to my network but when I restart from windows or linux to boot to the linux , then my wifi adaptor light is turned on after booting to linux but not finding the modems to connect.
I should say that I dont have any problem with this wifi adaptor on my windows 10 and 11.
And I should add this : I test other wifi adaptor and it works with no problems but this adaptor have problem after restart to boot to linux !
I should say that I had this problem in other distros too and in garuda I have problem in connecting to network( because the driver not installed on garuda like other distros) and one of the admins says to install rtw88-dkms-git and that problem fixed that it reconnect to net randomly).
but as I said I have problem after restart that my adaptor not find the modems and I should always replug my wifi adaptor to find my modems after restart mode.
Running Windows in a dual boot can often cause wifi problems. You will need to ensure all wifi powersaving in Windows and fastboot are disabled. Search the forum for directions if you are unsure how to do that. Post your exact steps you took to do this.
