The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will hold the Indian Forest Service Examination 2010 for recruitment to the Indian Forest Service Officers commencing from 10th July 2010.

Eligibility:
  • Age : Not less than 21 years and not more than 30 years as on 1st July, 2010. The upper age is relaxable for SC/ST/OBC and certain other categories of candidates to the extent specified in the Notice. 
  • Educational Qualification: Bachelor's degree of any recognised university with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science, Botonoy, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering or an equivalent qualification. 
  • Physical Standards: Candidates must be physically fit according to the Regulations given in notice. 
  • Number of attempts: The maximum number of attempts persmissible to different categories of aspirants, who are otherwise eligible, will be as (i) General Category - 4 attempts, (ii) OBC - 7 attempts (iii) SC/ST - No limit

Postdoctoral Position in Immunology/Infectious Diseases - Immune Cell
Memphis, TN

A postdoctoral position is available to study signal transduction and immune cell regulation through Toll-like receptors (TLR). In recent work we identified a novel component of TLR-mediated signaling complexes, whose deletion in mice revealed an essential role for protection from auto-inflammatory disease. This project focuses on the characterization of this new molecule in TLR signal transduction and the effector mechanisms involved in the control of inflammatory disease. The long term goal of this project is to characterize a novel signaling pathway that controls inflammatory disease and may represent a target for therapeutic intervention in human disease.

The project provides an ideal opportunity for fellows who are interested 1. in signal transduction and cutting edge protein identification/ interaction analysis, such as quantitative MS-based proteomics and 2., in Immunology and regulation of pro- and anti-inflammatory immune effector mechanisms, in isolated immune cells in vitro and in mouse models in vivo.

Requirements:

   * PhD and/or MD degree in Biochemistry, Biology or Immunology. Experience in protein purification, cell culture and molecular biology is desirable.

Genetic Mechanisms of Oncogene- and Therapy-Induced Senescence in vivo
We are interested in genetic programs and mutations which impact on tumor development and sensitivity to anticancer therapies. Utilizing a transgenic mouse model, we generate primary lymphomas with defined genetic lesions by intercrossing cancer-prone transgenics to knockout mice and by retroviral gene transfer into established lymphoma cells or hematopoietic stem cells. These tumors are transplantable and undergo anticancer treatment at their natural sites. Using this tractable system, which recapitulates typical features of human Non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas, we study genetic and biochemical effects of oncogenic action and drug responses in vivo. We are particularly interested in the contribution of cell-autonomous and environmental components (including the host immune response) in drug-induced apoptosis and premature senescence to chemoresistance, and further focus on stemness and cellular plasticity/transdifferentiation in senescence. Our translational aims are to elucidate !
 molecular mechanisms of cellular senescence and drug resistance in order to develop novel targeted therapies.

This study group is embedded in a combined clinical and basic research campus, since its group leader is affiliated with both the Department of Hematology-Oncology at Charité-Virchow Campus (Humboldt-University) and the distinguished Max-Delbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine in Berlin. Moreover, we are partner in a large lymphoma-related transregional collaborative research center (SFB/TRR54), which is an excellent network for scientific interaction and technology transfer. REQUIREMENTS
Join our highly-motivated team if you are interested in creative approaches and novel strategies to dissect the pathways of stress-inducible cellular senescence and chemoresistance in vivo. You hold a Ph.D. or equivalent, and you are familiar with all basic techniques in molecular biology, biochemistry and histology (i.e. cloning, analyses of proteins and DNA/RNA, cell culture, and immunohistochemistry).  Expertise in genome-wide screens, RNA interference, retroviral/lentiviral vector design, inducible gene expression systems, proteomics, molecular, cellular or organismic imaging, or generation of transgenics/knockout mice is preferred. STATISTICIAN (RESEARCH ASSOCIATE)

Salary: £27,319-£35,646pa

The DIL (http://www-gene.cimr.cam.ac.uk/todd/) has been at the forefront
of recent developments in our understanding of the genetics of type 1
diabetes (T1D), with over 40 genetic loci now identified. We are
continuing efforts to detect additional genetic loci, localise causal
variants and understand their function. Our ability to conduct
statistical analyses of large datasets derived from evolving
technologies has been central to our success to date.

A post-doctoral statistician is required to work with Dr Chris Wallace
within our statistics group, led by Professor David Clayton
(http://www-gene.cimr.cam.ac.uk/clayton/). There are several current and
upcoming projects which offer opportunities for statistical development,
mainly centred around three themes:

   * SNP and structural variant discovery and association analysis
     using sequencing and CGH array data in families and case-control
     subjects.
   * ‘Fine mapping’ of known T1D loci using dense genotyping data from
     tens of thousands of case-control subjects.
   * Alignment of genetic and phenotypic data (often from individuals
     distinct from our case-control series) with genetic disease
     association data, to explore whether the phenotype appears to
     mediate the disease effect.

The post-holder will be expected to conduct statistical analyses of
large genetic and phenotypic datasets which will require development of
statistical methods and programming, and communicate results in
scientific presentations and papers. The ideal candidate will have a
recent PhD in statistics or a related discipline, excellent programming,
written and oral communication skills and an enthusiasm for using
statistics to address scientifically interesting questions.

The Statistics Group, under the leadership of Professor David Hand, has long
and extensive interests in statistical aspects of consumer finance.  Generous
funding from Mr Graham Platts has created the opportunity to create and
deliver a new undergraduate course, “Credit Scoring”. This vacancy is
associated with the new course.

Candidates should hold a good honours degree in mathematics, statistics, or
some other appropriate discipline, in addition to a PhD in Statistics or an
equivalent level of professional qualifications and experience in a closely
related discipline. Postdoctoral research experience, or relevant industry
experience are highly desirable.  Candidates will be expected to have proven
research ability in statistics, ideally in areas matching the existing strengths of
the statistics group, but those with proven ability in other areas will also be
considered.  Candidates must have industry or academic experience of
consumer finance or credit scoring, be able to demonstrate the ability to
conduct an independent research programme, publication experience in peer-
reviewed journals or conferences, and experience of presenting technical
materials to diverse audiences.

Evidence or experience of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate
level across a range of subjects in statistics is desirable, but not essential.  It
is highly desirable that the candidate should have exposure to the credit
scoring industry, or an enthusiasm to develop into this area, and solid
computing skills.

The successful candidate will contribute to the undergraduate teaching
program within the Department, particularly the development and delivery of
the new credit scoring course, and to the ancillary courses program for other
departments, and possibly on various postgraduate teaching programs.
