You should use the Cadence switchversion program to assign the file associations. The error message indicates that you are accessing an allegro.exe from one release and you have your PATH variable pointing to a difference release. Once you use the switchversion program to assign file associations the association will change automatically when you switch releases.
I didn't install the software but I would assume that a standard installation was done. The other designers that I checked with do not have it listed either. Do I need to track down the software from IT and try to find it there? Thanks
Depending on how the software was installed some of the shortcuts may not appear in the Start Menu, not sure why but I have seen it happen in the past. Anyway you will find the "Cadence Switch Release" program in the following location:
%CDSROOT% is the Windows Environmental Variable which is mapped to the Root Cadence Installation directory. You can type the exact folder location above in Window Explorer and it will navigate you to the appropriate directory were you can find "switchversion.exe"
I have a question about Cadence switch release.
There are 3 versions (16.6; 17.2 and 17.4) in our PCB computers. To make cadence switch release run right, I need add domain user into local admin group then they can run it as admin to help file can auto open among versions. However, my boss does not allow they have local admin rights, I wonder if we have any other solution to remove them out of local admin but they still can use Cadence switch release.
Please give me any idea.
sorry for miss understanding, I know that Cadence switch release tool can help me change between version but it must be run as administrator. However, I need to find out how to run it without admin right because of IT policies.
Hello all,
i am having Allegro pcb editor 15.2. i want to swap the pins of an ic or resistor but when i click over pin it says "pin not swapable swap code is zero"
i don't know where to add this swap code and make any pin wsapable the online documentation is not sufficient to understand so pls tell me the simple steps to follow and make pin swapable.
pls do reply
allen
This is done in the schematic part symbol editor (i.e.OrCad).
1.Bring up the part for editing (usually from within the library).
2.Select "Pacakge" from the "view" menu.
3.Select "Properties" from the "edit" menu.
4. The column labeled "pin group" is actually the pin swap id. Use numbers from "1" up. Pins with the same number will we swappable with eachother.
On homogenous multipart parts like a quad AND gate, the two AND inputs of all four gates will be 1, as each gate is a separate part.
The help files sort of cover this. Look in the capture help index for "pin swapping for allegro"
Hello everyone. I'm new in cadence products. I wonder if there is a way to solve the following mistake. When I had all the electronic devices placed on the PCB, and I want to route all the tracks but not manually because there are a lot of them, so I try to use the option "Route->PCB router->Route automatically" but cadence throw me a message that disable the "Route" option.
I had same problem before, but I found the cause! when I removed all of Clines and Vias on the board, it works correctly. if there are the clines or vias that I created by hand on the board , it happened kind of that problem in my case. it has some bug I guess.... (I used professional license)
Last time I used the AutoRouter there was a check-box "Protect Routes/vias". When this is set, only unrouted nets will be handled by the autorouter. An advice is to route all critical nets first such as clock, power, create planes, etc and leave the uncritical nets to the autorouter. If you make a save of the half-way completed board, you can use a copy for experimenting, setting the layer route preferences, cleaning up via options, etc. It was some time since I used it (OrCAD Professional), but I think that constraints created in CM will be honored by the router.
I need to display filled pads using allegro viewer 16.5. This was simple in 15.7, pull-down menus dot me there quickly. But 16.5 I have spent a great deal of time looking for this and have not found it yet.
Make sure you are running the latest version of Download Manager (available where you access the hotfixes on support.cadence.com. Also check the settings of Download Manager, I set mine up to look every week for updates.
Hi Steve I am running the latest release of download manager it recognizes CIS but doesnt recognise Orcad in fact i downloaded the latest CIS using download manager on Saturday 7th march 2020 but today monday 9 March 2020 have to download orcad 17.4 hotfix 4 by going into the cadence software website
That doesn't make sense since CIS is the same download for PCB Editor - called Cadence OrCAD and Allegro 17.4-2019. Try uninstalling Download Manager then reinstall as mentioned above. If this doesn't help you may need to talk to Cadence Online Support or your Channel Partner.
My system has a problem with Allegro 17.2. At first all of the text was to small to read and the icons too small to make out even with the Icon setting set to"large" I was able to resolve the issue by editing the properties of Allegro.exe under the tab compatibility, then selecting "Change high DPI settings", then selecting the check box "Override high DPI scaling behavior" with the setting under "Scaling performed by:" set to "System". This definitely solved the problem when I re-opened Allegro, I was very happy!!!
Until, I opened a sub-menu/drop-down. They open so large on my screen that the buttons at the bottom are not accessible and half of the text cannot be seen. This makes the program unusable. I've loaded the latest ISR and I also tried deleting the allegro.geo file but it had no affect. I'm currently at a total loss with deadlines looming... Help!!!
Change the dpi settings back to default (to start) then restart Allegro, with the latest ISR it should recognise if you are using a 4K monitor and adjust icons and toolbars to suit. (Make sure your graphics card drivers are up to date with the vendor as well). If this doesn't help go to Setup - User Preferences - ui - general and adjust the tbriconsize to suit. You can also adjust the menu font size under ui - font - fontsize, both settings will need a tool restart.
