PRONOM signature release v92 is now available to download via the DROID signature update function or manually from here: https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/aboutapps/pronom/droid-signature-files.htm (There's an updated Container Signature file too)

This release includes 18 new PUIDs (now up to 1553 in total), 14 updated entries, and 15 new identification signatures. It also fixes a rare edge-case where we were seeing a different identification outcome between Windows and Unix environments for two specific formats (Corel Presentation v7-9 and Compound WordPerfect for Windows Document 6, fact fans). We're very grateful to Ross Spencer and his work on the skeleton file format corpus (https://github.com/exponential-decay/skeleton-test-suite-generator) for identifying this problem, and to Richard Lehane and his work on the Siegfried file format identification tool (https://www.itforarchivists.com/siegfried) that together with Ross helped to pinpoint and resolve the cause of the problem.

External contributions have come from:

RM Soft Inc, South Korea (new contributor - the second ever PRONOM contribution from Asia)
Bodleian Libraries, University of Oxford (new contributor)
Landesarchiv Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany (new contributor)
State Records New South Wales
Archives New Zealand
The Canadian Centre for Architecture
National Library of Scotland
Public Records Office Northern Ireland

I’m thrilled to announce the release of PRONOM update v94. This release is our largest in over 12 years (which itself was an automatic bulk import of data from an external dataset, so technically this is our largest ever release!). https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/aboutapps/pronom/release-notes.xml

We include:

86 new formats

31 updated entries

86 new identification signatures

We also introduce the new format classification ‘Font’, in line with the registration of ‘Font’ as a top level media type identifier with the Internet Assigned Names Authority.

We’ve included external contributions from 21 institutions/groups:

National Library of Australia

National Library of New Zealand

Landesarchiv Nordrhein-Westfalen

Henk Vanstappen, Datable

Harry Ransom Center, University of Texas

Canadian Centre for Architecture

Artefactual Systems

University of Edinburgh

New York Public Libraries

The Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints
