Greetings friends, colleagues and neighbors,
I write to you to share that Valley LEAP is reviving the planning meetings for the Empowerment at the Park Family Festival, "Nuestra Salud, Ambiente y Futuro/Our Health, Environemnt &future"! We have it planned for Saturday, November 2 from 12 to 4pm at Dicky Park.
Last year it was a huge success and we expect it to be so again this year, hopefully even better. In 2012 we served ofver 200 families mostly from the Lowell Community with differnt services including basic vaccinations, free clothes, a Participatory Action Research excercise, free immigrant legal counsel, nutrition education, cultural medicine via the Calpulli Ceremony and Danza, Enetertainment with the children bailet folklorico and our local neighborhood band, BASURA! Numerous other booths provided community health and wellbeing information and healthy food and fresh drinks, not talikin about the hot dogs but damn were they good! Thanks Chef Ernie!
This year we want to have more of the same and beef up the career fair portion as well as the environmental health 411 including smart growth, regional transportation, bike infrastructure and many other things that at onset are boring but with the right platica it can become as entertaining as your favorite novela!
Orale, Iam hoping you will be interested in joining the committee to make this years EMPOWERMENT at the PARK, a greater success for the Raza's health, wellbeing and self-determination!
What do people think about Tuesday meetings at 6PM? Ofcourse, at Chicano Youth Center. Please advise.
