We currently have a setup whereby we're using ec2_sd_configs to discover instances, and using a blackbox exporter running on an external service to check that certain services are running on said instances. They are not linked, as the hostnames of the instances that are publicly available use obfuscated hostnames.

The alerts that get triggered if one of the probes are not successful only "see" the hostname that was passed to it from the Prometheus config, so they have no knowledge of what the actual ec2 instance is that is having a problem. We'd have to take the obfuscated hostname and look somewhere else to figure out what it is.

Is there any way, perhaps using tags pulled from ec2, to tie the result of the blackbox_exporter to an ec2 instance?

Bump - any ideas for a solution within Prometheus to do this?
